    摘要: A method for enhancing reproduction of pixel images includes the steps of: storing a raster scan bit map of an image; selecting an input window from the bit map image that includes a plurality of row segments of bits representing pixels, the input window having a center pixel bit; comparing a subset of bits in the input window (that includes the center pixel bit) with a plurality of prediction bit subsets, each prediction subset represented in a plurality of rotation orientations, and upon finding a match with one of the prediction bit subsets, rotating the input window to the degree and direction indicated by a command associated with a matching prediction subset (if any); comparing the rotated input window with a limited set of sample windows to determine a match of certain bit states within the rotated input window with certain bits of a stored sample window; and upon determining that such a match exists, substituting an enhanced pixel representation for the center pixel bit of the input window.

    摘要: A laser printer/copier performs a method which converts a gray pixel value of N possible levels, to a halftone image exhibiting n apparent pixel gray values (where N>n). Each pixel of the halftone image is rendered by a laser at one of n-1 non-white gray levels through use of the method. The method includes the steps of: sequentially, logically, tiling a dither matrix across the image and determining a relational value between a gray value of each image pixel and a logically superimposed dither matrix value. At each odd tile position, a determination is made for each such relational value, which of n-1 threshold values is exceeded and if an intermediate one of the n-1 threshold values is exceeded, the pixel is assigned a first gray modulation value. At each even tile position, a determination is made, for each such relational value, of which of the n-1 threshold values is exceeded and if the aforesaid intermediate threshold value is exceeded, the pixel is assigned a second, different one of the n-1 gray level modulation values. Thereafter, laser modulation values are examined for pixels that are correspondingly positioned at three sequential (odd/even/odd or even/odd/even) dither matrix tile positions. The gray modulation value assigned to the middle corresponding pixel is then adjusted in accordance with gray modulation values assigned to the adjoining corresponding pixels so as to provide a smoothing of gray value transitions. The smoothed gray level values are then applied to control a laser print engine.

    摘要: A method for partial pixel encoding and decoding of an extended resolution halftone image. The image is represented by a plurality of pixels and each pixel contains a number of sub-pixels. First, a group of pixels from the plurality of pixels is defined. The group of pixels is consolidated so that at most one pixel (i.e., a partial pixel) in the group has a sub-set of the plurality of sub-pixels set. Those fully-on or fully-off pixels in the group are stored in a bitmap. The corresponding bit in the bitmap is set if the partial pixel has more than half of its sub-pixels set otherwise it is reset. Next, the position of the partial pixel is stored in memory. Finally, an indicator is stored in memory, where the indicator in combination with the corresponding bit describe how many of the sub-pixels in the partial pixel are set. Decoding is performed in the reverse order.
