Abstract:
A method of calibrating stack height sensing in a media stack height monitoring system in an image forming machine includes sensing the angular position of a pick mechanism arm, generating electrical signals having levels correlated to the pick mechanism arm angular positions that correspond to different stack height levels, measuring and storing at least one value corresponding to the level of the electrical signal at least at one of two calibration points: “full load” and “stack out” conditions of the media stack, estimating either the amount or percent of media sheets remaining in the media stack corresponding to measured and stored value of the electrical signal level at the at least one calibration point, and indicating either of the amount or percent of media sheets remaining in the media stack.
Abstract:
A technique for optical measurement of a thickness of a layer on a surface uses diffuse reflections at opposite boundaries of the layer, operates on transparent, or translucent layers. The thickness is determined by computing a separation between the centers of the two diffuse reflections, and using the index of refraction of the layer, and geometric properties of a beam and detector with respect to the surface. The technique is useful for quantifying thickness of a layer of rime ice, glaze ice, frosted ice, or water, for example.
Abstract:
The pH indicator for solid food called PHIND is a detector that reveals the acidity of solid food. Because the acidity of human stomach is about pH 3 and because the possibilities of the body to neutralize excesses of acidity are limited, the sole fact of eating acidic food can cause discomfort or heartburns. The PHIND is specifically humidified to turn red as soon as it is on contact with an acidic food even if this acidic food is solid, warning people of the danger of discomfort or heartburns. Sealed in a watertight and chemically neutral envelope to keep its properties in all circumstances, the PHIND is always ready to reveal the acidity of solid food. The PHIND is effective, easy to use and disposable.
Abstract:
This process uses two catalysts instead of one, converting CO2 into C8H18. Addition of a NaCl catalyst to a Ni catalyst improves the efficiency of Fischer's process because the salt catalyst retains humidity. Furthermore, chlorine opens chemical chains and sodium prevents crystals of oxygen from covering the Ni catalyst. If we are equipped to produce CO2 from biogas or smoke, we can recycle this CO2 and yield a useful liquid. In fact, recycling CO2 into a synthetic crude hydrocarbon, octane, contributes to clean air and to produce a valuable source of energy. Because CO2 is a renewable resource, this process favors a lasting economic development.
Abstract:
A mid-frame for use in an imaging apparatus includes an undulating surface extending in an undulation direction. At least one elongated slot can be formed in the mid-frame, wherein a direction of elongation of the elongated slot is substantially the same direction as the undulation direction.
Abstract:
A system for a player to play golf includes a member having a surface. A colored area is disposed on the surface of the member, the colored area is yellow which when stared at will produce a violet afterimage. The member or a printed representation thereof is placed on and article of wearing apparel worn by the player so that the player can see the colored area. Prior to hitting a golf ball, the player stares at the colored area for a few seconds, closes his/her eyes and sees the violet afterimage, then opens his/her eyes. The player then hits the golf ball.
Abstract:
A system has a first transmitter for transmitting a first wireless signal within a first frequency. A second transmitter is for transmitting a second wireless signal with overlapping frequency. The first transmitter and the second transmitter are disposed sufficiently proximate to another such that the wireless signals substantially interfere resulting in a combined wireless signal with negative SNR for each of the first wireless signal and the second wireless signal, the negative SNR being a result of at least the other of the first wireless signal and the second wireless signal. A receiver is located for receiving a received wireless signal comprising substantially interfering encoded data signals having negative SNR. The receiver is for selecting from the substantially interfering encoded data signals a signal of interest and for decoding said signal of interest relative to at least the other substantially interfering data signal within the received wireless signal.
Abstract:
A steering system for a vehicle having left and right endless tracks, left and right sprocket wheels, a motor and a hydraulic pump includes left and right hydraulic motors mounted to a respective one of the left and right sprocket wheels, a hydraulic circuit connecting the fluid outlet of each hydraulic motor to the fluid inlet of the other hydraulic motor, and a steering mechanism for receiving hydraulic pressure from the hydraulic pump and selectively distributing it to the first and second hydraulic motors. The steering mechanism is in fluid communication with the fluid inlets of the left and right hydraulic motors to provide hydraulic pressure in response to first and second steering inputs from a user. An attachment kit includes the steering system.
Abstract:
A storage management system is provided. The storage management system may includes a data collector configured to receive storage management information for storage. The storage manager includes an agent configured to collect storage management information for a storage object and to communicate the storage management information to the data collector. The storage management system includes a user interface configured to display the storage management information for the storage objects.
