    摘要: A housing cooperates with an air mover rotating about a rotation axis to move air received from an approach to an exhaust. The approach is generally oriented about a direction intersecting the housing at upstream and downstream limits. The housing presents an interior surface establishing radii between the axis and the surface. The radii have a generally constant radial value across a width in planes containing the axis in a first zone between the downstream limit and a first locus, and in a second zone between a second locus and the exhaust. The radii vary between a smallest and a largest radius across the width in planes containing the axis in a variance zone upstream of the axis. The smallest radius is less than the radial value at the first and second loci. The largest radius is larger than the radial value at one of the first and second loci.

    摘要: A device is provided for dampening compressor-induced vibration in an air conditioning system of the type having an indoor unit, an outdoor unit and a refrigerant conduit therebetween. The outdoor unit includes a compressor that is operable to circulate a vapor compression refrigerant through the conduit between the indoor and outdoor units. The dampening device is comprised of plural vibration dampening elements spaced along the conduit, with the spacing between adjacent elements corresponding to the wavelength of a natural vibratory frequency of the conduit. The device is preferably located proximate to the compressor and inside of the outdoor unit cabinet in which the compressor is housed. Various embodiments of the dampening device are disclosed.

    摘要: Axial flow fan propellers are provided with a roughened portion along the trailing edge of the fan blades on the pressure side of the blade to minimize tonal acoustic emissions generated by laminar boundary layer vortex shedding. The roughened portion may be provided by trip surfaces formed in the blades, by strips of abrasive material adhered to the blades along the trailing edges, respectively, by parallel or cross-hatched serrations in the blades or by upturned or offset trailing edges of the blades. The height of the roughened portion should be about equal to the boundary layer thickness of air flowing over the blade surfaces during operation of the fan. The fan propellers are particularly advantageous in heat exchanger applications, such as residential air conditioning system condenser units.

    摘要: Combined apparatus for heating a fluid and for producing electrical power is comprised of a burner operable to burn a combustible fuel-air mixture to produce gaseous products of combustion; a heat exchanger adapted to receive the products of combustion and to transfer heat therefrom to the fluid; a gas-operated turbine; and an electrical generator that is co-rotatable with the turbine. In operation, gaseous products of combustion are introduced into the turbine after they have passed through at least a portion of the heat exchanger. The products of combustion expand in the turbine to rotate the turbine, which in turn rotates the generator to produce electrical power. The apparatus further includes a compressor that is co-rotatable with the turbine and generator to provide combustion air to the burner and to circulate the products of combustion through the heat exchanger and turbine.
