    摘要: A variable speed transmission includes parallel driver and driven shafts (54, 56) which mount respective series of intermeshing gears (60-65, 70-75) of progressively increasing gear ratio for selectively transmitting power from one shaft to the other. A series of two-way roller clutches are interposed between the driven shaft (56) and respective gear members (70-75) of the series of driven gears. The roller clutches are engageable for rotatively coupling the driven gears (70-75) to the driven shaft (56) and are disengageable for permitting relative rotation between the driven gears and the driven shaft. Each of the roller clutches includes a cam disk (10) having a plurality of recesses (20) formed in its peripheral surface and a roller retainer (12) circumferentially supporting a plurality of rollers (32) within respective recesses (20) in the cam disk. A hydraulically controlled actuator is operatively connected to each of the retainers (12) for indexing the roller retainers (12) together with the plurality of rollers (32) between respective limit positions within the recesses. The actuating means includes an annular plate (22, 24) rotatively coupled to the roller retainer and angularly spaced vanes (44) in communication with a pair of fluid supply ducts (92, 94 and 96, 98) of a stationary hydraulic housing (80-85). One of the supply ducts (92, 94) provides for indexing the roller retainer (12) to one of the limit positions, and the other of the supply ducts (96, 98) provides for indexing the roller retainer (12) to the other limit position.

    摘要: A variable speed transmission includes parallel drive and driven shafts which mount respective series of intermeshing gears of progressively increasing gear ratio for selectively transmitting power from one shaft to the other. A series of two-way roller clutches are interposed between the driven shaft and respective gear members of the series of driven gears. The roller clutches are engageable for rotatively coupling the respective gear members to the driven shaft and are disengageable for permitting relative rotation between the respective gear members and the driven shaft. Each of the roller clutches includes a cam disk having a plurality of recesses formed in its peripheral surface and a roller retainer circumferentially supporting a plurality of rollers within respective recesses in the cam disk. A hydraulically controlled actuator is connected to each of the retainers for indexing the roller retainers together with the plurality of rollers between respective limit positions within the recesses. The actuating device includes an annular plate rotatively coupled to the roller retainer and angularly spaced vanes in communication with a pair of fluid supply ducts of a stationary hydraulic control housing. One of the supply ducts provides for indexing the roller retainer to one of the limit positions, and the other of the supply ducts provides for indexing the roller retainer to the other limit position.

    摘要: A plurality of pairs of tubular members are secured at their lower ends in spaced relation on the roof or trunk lid of an automobile by conventional suction cups. One member of each pair has a socket in its upper end for receiving and supporting the goose neck portion of an inverted bicycle frame, and the other member of the pair has a cylindrical projection on its upper end adapted to slide snugly into the bore of the tubular seat post of a bicycle frame after the bicycle seat has been removed. Threaded rods extend between and adjustably separate the two support members of each pair; and the pairs of members are held in laterally spaced relation by a plurality of spacer bars which extend between adjacent pairs of support members. At least one of the spacer bars is a flexible torsion bar which permits at least one support member of a pair to be pivoted about its lower end slightly to adjust the space between the upper ends of the pair so that bike frames of different sizes can be held on the rack.

    摘要: An all wheel drive system for a motor vehicle is normally set up to operate in a two wheel drive mode except in vehicle operating situations where increased traction is desired. A drive shaft of a drive line is connected to front and rear axles through respective speed adjusters. A front speed adjuster provides for transmitting a rotational speed to the front drive axle that is slower than a rotational speed transmitted by the rear speed adjuster to the rear drive axle. At least one overrunning clutch is interposed in the drive line to a pair of front drive wheels for permitting the front drive wheels to be rotated out of engagement with the drive line by motion of the vehicle.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for automotive wheel alignment in which a telescope is mounted with its axis precisely parallel with the end plane defined by the automotive wheel hub. A calibrated target is placed and centered directly in front of the telescope on its optical axis. This procedure is repeated for the wheel on the other side of the vehicle. The vehicle is then moved a distance, for example 50 feet, from the targets which are left in place. The telescope is again placed on the wheel hubs and the targets sighted. If both targets remain on the optical axis the wheels are in perfect alignment. If they are not, the calibrations on the target indicate the direction and extent of misalignment. The telescope or instrument is in precise coplanar relationship with the wheel hub by means of the telescope holder which is a body providing a base plane for contact with the end plane defined by the hub, and a V-block at its other end for holding the telescope, the apex of the V-block being parallel with the base plane of the holder.

    摘要: A load-bearing plate is mounted by a plurality of pivotal links above a base plate, and solely for vertical movement toward and away from the base plate. An intermediate frame including two, spaced, parallel side bars is supported by the links between the two plates for swinging movement on the base plate about a pair of spaced, parallel axes. Driving means, such as a hydraulic screw jack is mounted between the two side bars for swinging movement therewith, and has a reciprocable piston rod attached to one of two, parallel shafts mounted at opposite ends in slots in the side bars to reciprocate longitudinally of the bars during the raising and lowering of the load-bearing plate. The reciprocable movement of the two shafts oscillates the links which in turn cause the load-bearing plate to reciprocate only vertically relative to the base plate.

    摘要: To test the alignment of the front wheels of an automotive vehicle, the front wheels of the vehicle are driven onto a pair of spaced, parallel rollers, one of which is driven to effect rotation of the front wheels while the vehicle is standing motionless. The hubcaps are removed and a plane mirror is secured by a magnet to the hub of each front wheel. A laser beam is shone onto each mirror through a central hole in a chart. Means is provided for adjusting the the mirror angularly to tilt its plane relative to the axis of the associated spindle of the vehicle. Each mirror can be adjusted so that its plane is perfectly perpendicular to the axis of the spindle. Then the wheels can be accurately tested for toe, run-out and camber.
