Abstract:
A DROP OF VISCOUS MOLTEN VITREOUS MATERIAL IS EXUDED FROM AN ORIFICE COMMUNICATING WITH A SUPPLY OF SUCH MATERIAL. SO EXUDED, THE DROP WILL DESCEND UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF GRAVITY WHILE DRAWING BEHIND IT A LENGTH OF FILAMENT OF THE VITREOUS MATERIAL. THE DESCENDING DROP IS CONTACTED WITH A CURTAIN OF LIQUID WHICH IS BEING PROPELLED TRANSVERSELY TO THE DIRECTION OF DESCENT AT SUCH VELOCITY AS TO DEFLECT, ACCELERATE AND SEVER THE DROP AND PROXIMAL PORTIONS OF THE FILAMENT FROM THE REMAINDER OF THE LENGTH OF FILAMENT. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY A LIQUID SUPPLY CONDUIT HAVING A PLURALITY OF LIQUID EJECTING NOZZLES WHICH FORCE THE FILAMENTS INTO A ROTARY FILAMENT DRAWING SURFACE.
Abstract:
A method of an an apparatus for forming a nonwoven web of fibrous material. A pervious supporting surface travels in a predetermined direction. One or more spray pipes are arranged above and spaced from the supporting surface either in parallelism with or inclined to the direction of travel of the surface. Liquid is sprayed from the spray pipes as a liquid curtain or curtains downwardly towards the supporting surface. A supply arrangement advances a stream of staple fibers into the path of the liquid curtain or curtains so that the staple fibers are entrained by the liquid and deposited on the pervious supporting surface in the form of a fibrous web.
Abstract:
WARP THREADS, ROPES, OR BANDS CONSISTING OF GLASS FIBERS ARE TRANSPORTED OVER THE CENTER PORTION OF A ROTARY DRUM WHICH HAS CIRCULAR ROWS OF RADIAL PINS AT THE ENDS. A ROTARY THREAD LAYING ARM LAYS CLOSED LOOPS OF A CROSS THREAD, ROPE, OR BAND CONSISTING OF GLASS FIBERS, OVER PAIRS OF PINS OF THE ROWS SO THAT TRANSVERSE CLOSED LOOP CROSS THE WARP THREADS ON ONE SIDE AND CAN BE BONDED TO THE SAME.
Abstract:
In making glass fiber structures, the strands of glass are first coated with a liquid, for instance a lubricant, prior to their delivery to the drawing drum, and the glass fibers formed on the drawing drum are then coated in a separate application, while separated from each other, with a liquid coating medium after their removal from the drawing drum and prior to their consolidation into a glass fiber structure. An apparatus for carrying out the second coating application includes an air channel leading away from the drawing drum and liquid transfer means protruding into the air channel so as to be contacted by the glass fibers carried through said air channel in a stream of air.
Abstract:
IN THE PRODUCTION OF FILAMENTS FROM VITREOUS THERMOPLASTIC MATERIAL THREADS OF THE MATERIAL IN LIQUID FROM ARE EXUDED ONTO THE THE SURFACE OF A ROTATING DRAWING DRUM AT A FIRST LOCATION AND ARE STRIPPED OFF THE SURFACE AT A DOWNSTREAM SECOND LOCATION. A SIZING SUBSTANCE FOR THE FILAMENTS IS APPLIED ONTO THE SURFACE OF THE DRUM INTERMEDIATE THESE TWO LOCATION SO AS TO BE TRANSFERRED ONTO THE FILAMENTS WHEN THE SAME CONTACT THE DRUM SURFACE.
