    Abstract: A hydraulic compressed air energy storage system includes air and liquid tanks, each of which includes interdependent volumes of liquid and air. Each tank includes dedicated passages through which incoming air may be fed, forcing outflow of liquid, or incoming liquid may be fed, forcing outflow of air. Compressed air tanks are connected to a first group of the air and liquid tanks. The system further includes a pump and a liquid turbine, the liquid turbine being electrically connected to a generator for generating electric power. During charging of the system, liquid is pumped through the first group of air and liquid tanks, and air is expelled from the first group of air and liquid tanks and compressed in the compressed air tanks. During discharging of the system, compressed air is released from the compressed air tanks, and said compressed air pumps liquid through the liquid turbine, thereby generating electricity.

    Abstract: An energy storage system, including: electrically powered liquid pumps, for streaming liquid into liquid-gas tanks; one or more liquid-gas tanks, adapted to intake a portion of gas and to utilize liquid streamed by the one or more electrically powered liquid pumps, as a piston for compressing the received portion of gas, wherein the one or more liquid-gas tanks are further adapted to deliver the compressed gas to one or more compressed gas storage tanks, and to stream the liquid back to the one or more electrically powered liquid pumps; one or more compressed gas storage tanks adapted to store compressed gas received from the one or more liquid-gas tanks; pipping components, branches thereof, and controllable valves, for enabling controlled streaming of liquid and gas through the storage system; a plurality of sensors, adapted to provide information related to liquid and gas in the storage system, such as to enable corresponding control of the storage system by one or more controllers; one or more controllers for managing the streaming of gas and liquid through the storage system.

    Abstract: A system for storing air at high pressure underground or underwater includes a plurality of arrays of air tanks, each tank configured to store compressed air at a pressure of at least 40 bar. A piping system connects between an outlet of each air tank, the piping system further including at least one central port for delivering compressed air to and from a respective array. A storage receptacle surrounds the arrays and piping system, protecting the arrays and piping system from an external environment, and thermally insulating the arrays and piping system. A liquid bath is arranged within the storage receptacle. A heat exchanger is configured to maintain a temperature of the liquid bath substantially constant. The storage receptacle may be comprised of plastic pieces welded together in a modular fashion. Each piece may be a cylindrical tube configured to receive therein one or more of the arrays.

    Abstract: An air conditioning system includes a compression unit; a plurality of high pressure condensing tanks; an expander for releasing the compressed refrigerant from the high pressure tanks while expanding the compressed refrigerant; an evaporator; low-pressure storage tanks for collecting discharged vapor from the evaporator; and a conduit for conveying the refrigerant vapor from the low-pressure storage tanks to an intake of the compression unit. The compression unit may include pairs of liquid-gas pistons, each pair having first and second cylinders having substantially equal volumes, a pressure equalizing valve arranged between the first and second cylinders of each pair, and a liquid pump. Pressurizing of gas through pumping of liquid through each respective pair of liquid gas pistons is performed with a constant time shift. An expander may capture work of expanding refrigerant for purposes of pumping of liquid in the compression unit.
