Abstract: A system for storing air at high pressure underground or underwater includes a plurality of arrays of air tanks, each tank configured to store compressed air at a pressure of at least 40 bar. A piping system connects between an outlet of each air tank, the piping system further including at least one central port for delivering compressed air to and from a respective array. A storage receptacle surrounds the arrays and piping system, protecting the arrays and piping system from an external environment, and thermally insulating the arrays and piping system. A liquid bath is arranged within the storage receptacle. A heat exchanger is configured to maintain a temperature of the liquid bath substantially constant. The storage receptacle may be comprised of plastic pieces welded together in a modular fashion. Each piece may be a cylindrical tube configured to receive therein one or more of the arrays.

Abstract: Disclosed is a device for storing and supplying cryogenic fluid, in particular an on-board device for storing and supplying liquefied hydrogen, which device comprises a cryogenic storage tank for storing liquefied fluid, a bleed-off circuit, and a system for pressurizing the tank comprising a pressurizing duct having two ends respectively connected to the upper and lower portions of the tank, a vaporizing heat exchanger and a set of one or more valves configured so as to allow liquid to be bled from the tank, to be heated in the heat exchanger and to be fed back into the tank; the system for pressurizing the tank being configured so as to bleed off a predetermined volume of fluid from the tank, to store and to isolate this volume in the vaporizing heat exchanger until the volume of fluid reaches predetermined temperature and/or pressure conditions prior to reinjecting the volume of fluid into the tank; the pressurizing duct comprising a member for limiting the flow rate and/or the pressure of the volume of reinjected fluid.

Abstract: An insulation arrangement configured to cover a vessel containing a liquified gas is provided. Embodiments include an insulation arrangement including an aerogel composition and a vapor barrier, where the insulation arrangement reduces heat transfer between the ambient environment and the liquified gas. Other embodiments include an insulated clamping device configured to connect a vessel to a framework and a connection system including the insulated clamping device, where the vessel includes the aforementioned insulation arrangement.

Abstract: A fuel cylinder, such as a high-pressure fluid storage tank, is provided with dual-inlet refilling capabilities. The storage tank may include a main body section with a first domed end portion and a second domed end portion disposed at opposite portions of the main body section. A first inlet assembly and a second inlet assembly are provided at the respective first domed end portion and the second domed end portion. Each inlet assembly is configured to provide fluid communication between a supply of a high-pressure fluid and an interior of the storage tank. Each inlet assembly may include a boss and a tank valve, with each tank valve being in fluid communication with the compressed fluid receptacle. During filling of the storage tank, the high-pressure fluid travels through a compressed fluid receptacle and enters the interior of the storage tank simultaneously through each of the first and second inlet assemblies.

Abstract: A nitrogen blanket system for small fuel tanks is disclosed that includes tank empty-space pressure control for sealed tanks that can hold pressure. The system includes a fuel tank storing some volume of fuel, such as diesel fuel. The remaining empty volume is filled with nitrogen by the disclosed system. The nitrogen blankets the liquid fuel and fills the remaining space in the fuel tank to prevent the accumulation of moisture and thereby prevent corrosion within the fuel tank.

Abstract: A system to maintain an inert ullage in a hydrocarbon tank. The system provides for outgassing/venting of ullage gases when a high pressure event is found within the tank. Further, when a low pressure event occurs, during fuel discharge or based on ambient conditions, a source of inert gas, such as nitrogen) supplies gas on-demand to the hydrocarbon tank via a pressure regulator (preferably along the venting system) to maintain both the pressure and inerting of the ullage. A method for maintaining the inert ullage is also provided, whereby a low pressure event triggers a supply of inert gas into the tank.
