Abstract:
A method for improved presentation of media information for wireless communication is described herein. Media services and program packages are ranked and ranking information is delivered to a mobile device along with the media information. The ranking information is then used by the mobile device to arrange the media services in a ranked order. The ranking information can also be used to assign a default service that is displayed whenever the mobile device is activated or whenever a selection is made to view media content. The ranking information can also be used to arrange program packages in a ranked order for subscription purposes.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for conditional access of non real-time (NRT) content in a distribution system. A method includes encrypting NRT content with a control word (CW) to generate encrypted NRT content, providing the CW to entitlement control message (ECM) generators, receiving ECMs from the ECM generators, wherein each ECM comprises a unique encryption of the CW to provide conditional access to the CW, and providing the encrypted NRT content and the ECMs for transmission over a distribution network. An apparatus includes a synchronizer configured to provide a CW to ECM generators and receive ECMs from the ECM generators, wherein each ECM comprises a unique encryption of the CW to provide conditional access to the CW, and a management module configured to encrypt the NRT content with the CW to generate encrypted NRT content and provide the encrypted NRT content and the ECMs for transmission over the distribution network.
Abstract:
Multiplexer to transmitter interface protocol. A method for a data interface protocol is provided that includes receiving a first packet stream having at least one overhead information symbol (OIS) group and at least one multicast logical channel (MLC) group, and mapping each OIS group to an OIS descriptor packet and at least one OIS payload packet. The method also includes mapping each MLC group to an MLC descriptor packet and at least one MLC payload packet, and outputting the OIS descriptor, OIS payload, MLC descriptor, and MLC payload packets in a second packet stream. An apparatus includes input logic to receive the first packet stream, processing logic to map each OIS group to an OIS descriptor packet an OIS payload packet, and each MLC group to an MLC descriptor packet and an MLC payload packet, and output logic to output the mapped packets in a second packet stream.
Abstract:
Aspects relate to systems and methods for providing the ability to customize content delivery. A device can cache multiple presentations. The device can establish a cache depth upon initiation of the subscription service. The device can provide an interface to select a cache depth. The cache depth can be the number of presentations the device will maintain on the device at a given time.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for auto-subscription in a network environment. A method is provided that includes determining an affiliate associated with a device, and identifying a package associated with the affiliate. The method also includes generating system information parameters that identify the package, and transmitting the system information parameters to the device. The method also includes receiving a subscription request from the device, wherein the subscription request requests that the device be automatically subscribed to receive the package.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for service acquisition in a broadcast system. In an aspect, a method includes detecting whether a loss of service has occurred, and initiating acquisition attempts during an aggressive acquisition phase if a loss of service has occurred, wherein a backoff time interval between successive acquisition attempts is constant or increased, and wherein the aggressive acquisition phase ends when service acquisition is achieved or a selected number of acquisition attempts have been performed. An apparatus includes interface logic configured to detect whether a loss of service has occurred, and processing logic configured to initiate acquisition attempts during an aggressive acquisition phase if a loss of service has occurred, wherein a backoff time interval between successive acquisition attempts is constant or increased, and wherein the aggressive acquisition phase ends when service acquisition is achieved or a selected number of acquisition attempts have been performed.
Abstract:
Embodiments relate to systems and methods for delivering auxiliary data to a wireless or other device. Content, such as audio, video or textual content, can be hosted by a server for delivery to the device. The content can have associated resources, for example icons, barkers, intros, and outros that are associated with television programming or other media content. A metadata document can describe the set of resources or other auxiliary data associated with a service, channel or content by indicating a resource descriptor, and a URL or other associated resource locator information. The metadata document can be encoded in XML or other formats. The device can locate resources that are intended to be delivered with selected content, since links to the resources are integrated in the metadata document. From the resource descriptor, the device can also identify how a particular resource should be utilized for the service, channel or content.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for exchanging information with a dormant target communication device provide for locating a dormant target communication device by a wireless infrastructure, forwarding information to the dormant target communication device by the wireless infrastructure, and allowing the dormant target communication device, upon receiving said information from the wireless structure, to start forwarding information to the wireless structure. The methods and apparatus further provides for piggybacking information sent to and/or received from the dormant target communication device.
