    摘要: An optical unit for use in a backlight device of a liquid crystal display apparatus, includes a light-diffusing component to diffract incident light and a light-collecting component having multiple microlenses each having a shape of a hemisphere- or semi-oval-like protrusion on a light-emitting side of the light-collecting component. The components are provided in this order on an optical path of light emitted from a light source of the backlight device. The light-diffusing component includes a diffusing section having a first surface that faces the light source and an opposite second surface, and first and second prisms provided on the first and second surfaces, respectively. Each prism has a cross section like a teeth of a saw. Each first prism has a summit protruding towards the light source. Each second prism has a summit protruding in an opposite direction of the first prism.

The space has a height corresponding to a step created by the higher and lower sections and is located between the specific zone and the edge section of the rear surface section of the base plate.

    摘要: A video signal is processed using dither coefficients. Dither coefficients pattern signals are generated. Each pattern signal carries positive and negative dither coefficients arranged in an (n×m) matrix where “n” and “m” being positive integers larger than zero, the sum total of the coefficients being zero. One of the pattern signal is selected for each predetermined unit of picture carried by the video signal. Or, it is selected according to locations of dither coefficients on pixels arranged on a display panel. Dither coefficients of the selected pattern signal are added to an input video signal, thus outputting a video signal to be supplied to the display panel. Instead of the dither coefficients pattern signals, dither pattern signals can be generated, each carrying positional data indicating locations of dither coefficients on the pixels on the display panel. A dither coefficient signal to be added to the input signal is generated which carries the dither coefficients arranged in a matrix for each gradation level of the input video signal in response to one of the dither pattern signal. Dither coefficients pattern signals can be generated according to color gradation levels of data carried by the input video signal, the data being supplied to each of dot matrices that constitute the pixels, each pattern signal carrying dither coefficients arranged in a matrix corresponding to each dot matrix. One of dither coefficients is selected from each pattern signal with respect to each dot matrix, thus outputting a dither coefficients pattern signal that carries the dither coefficients selected from the pattern signals and arranged in the matrix. The dither coefficients carried by the output pattern signal to be added to the input video signal are adjusted so that the sum total of the dither coefficients carried by the output pattern signal is zero.

    摘要: A video signal processing apparatus processes an input video signal for displaying an image based on the video signal. Detected is a gradation level of the input video signal. A color saturation level of the input video signal is depressed in a predetermined color saturation level range only when the detected gradation level is located in a predetermined gradation level range. A first input video signal having a first gradation level (or number of bits) is converted into a second video signal having a second gradation level (or number of bits) that is lower (or smaller) than first gradation level (or number of bits), for displaying an image based on the input video signal. Error data is generated in response to a data portion of the first input video signal. The data portion corresponds to a difference between the first and the second gradation levels (or number of bits). The error data is obtained by multiplying the data portion by predetermined error diffusion coefficients according to pixel dots that surround a pixel dot composed of R(red)-, G(green)- and B(blue)-signal components of the first input video signal. At least one of the number of bits of the error diffusion coefficients for one of the R-, G- and B-signal components is different from the other number of bits of the error diffusion coefficients for the other signal components The generated error data is added to the first input video signal to convert the first input video signal into the second video signal. Reverse-gamma correction may be applied to the first input video signal before conversion.
