    Abstract: A surfactant composition is disclosed comprising a first alkyl sulfate surfactant, optionally a second alkyl sulfate surfactant, and optionally an alkyl ether sulfate. The first and second alkyl sulfate surfactants have Formula (1): R1—OSO3−+M1  (1) and the alkyl ether sulfate has Formula (2): R2—(OCH2CH2)yOSO3−+M2  (2) in which R1 and R2 are independently selected linear or branched alkyl or a combination thereof having from 6 to 14 carbon atoms, y has an average value from 0.1 to 5, and M1 and M2 are cations independently selected from sodium, calcium, ammonium, or a combination of two or all of these. Use of the composition as a foaming agent for gypsum slurries, and of the gypsum slurries for formation of gypsum boards, are disclosed.

    Abstract: Non-settling aqueous-based pourable suspensions may be prepared from mixtures of water soluble and oil soluble amphiphiles with from 6 to 11 carbon atoms in the hydrophobic portion of the amphiphile. The water soluble amphiphiles are classed as hydrotropes. The systems are low foaming and are particularly useful for suspending problematic materials such as graphene and diamond powder.

    Abstract: Compositions comprising a synergistic mixture of at least one neutralized amino acid ester and a glyceride component as a composition active are disclosed. The mixture comprises from 35% to 85% by weight neutralized amino acid ester, and from 15% to 65% by weight of a glyceride component comprising selected monoglycerides, diglycerides, or a combination thereof. The compositions are useful for hair care, as well as in other applications, such as cleaning compositions, fabric softening compositions, and skin care compositions. When formulated into a hair care formulation, the compositions provide better wet combing than either the neutralized amino acid ester or the glycerides alone. Also disclosed are end use compositions comprising the mixture of neutralized amino acid ester and selected glycerides.

    Abstract: Non-aqueous solder flux compositions are disclosed. In some aspects, the compositions comprise: (a) an alkylbenzene sulfonic acid or an acidic phosphate ester; and (b) an alkanolamide, an ethoxylated alkanolamide, an alkanolamine, or an ethoxylated amine. Methods of making solder flux compositions and methods of using the compositions as components of tacky solder fluxes are described. The solder flux compositions have excellent wettability, oxide removal capability, and rheological characteristics for high-speed, pick-and-place manufacturing processes and can be made from a simple combination of two components, thereby avoiding the need for solvents, polymeric thickeners, and other components of traditional tacky solder fluxes.

    Abstract: Compositions comprising an acrylamide polymer emulsion and a nonionic surfactant suitable for use as friction reducers for hydraulic fracturing are disclosed. The nonionic surfactants include aralkylated phenol ethoxylates, amine ethoxylates, amidoamine ethoxylates, linear or branched alcohol EO/PO alkoxylates, ethoxylated alcohols, alkylphenol ethoxylates, and EO-capped poly(oxypropylene) block copolymers. Improved hydraulic fracturing processes in which an acrylamide polymer emulsion is used as a friction reducer are also described. In these processes, the surfactant is included in the composition with the acrylamide polymer friction reducer, or it is introduced separately into the process. The performance of low-cost polyacrylamide friction reducers can be boosted with a small proportion of certain readily available nonionic surfactants. The inventive compositions are effective in high-salinity environments, and their performance can sometimes exceed that of more-expensive salt-tolerant friction reducers, thereby reducing fresh water demand and enabling greater utilization of produced water.

    Abstract: A promoted membrane suitable for use in single-ply roofing applications is disclosed. The membrane comprises EPDM rubber and 0.1 to 10 wt. % of an adhesion promoter. The promoter comprises a polyester resin having a hydroxyl number within the range of 28 to 250 mg KOH/g, a content of terephthalate recurring units within the range of 40 to 65 wt. % based on the amount of polyester resin, and a glass-transition temperature within the range of 40° C. to 80° C. Roofing systems comprising the promoted EPDM membranes are also disclosed. Compared with an unpromoted membrane, the promoted membranes provide a substantial and unexpected boost in peel strength such that the roofing systems resist weather-induced failure of the bond between the roofing membrane and the roof substrate. The invention helps roofers minimize or limit the aggravation and cost of warranty claims from customers whose buildings and contents may otherwise be damaged or destroyed by exposure to wind and/or rain.

    Abstract: Polyether-epoxide polymer compositions are disclosed. The compositions comprise a reaction product of a polyepoxide compound and a polyol composition comprising a polyether polyol. The ratio of epoxy equivalents to hydroxyl equivalents is within the range of 0.5:1 to 3:1. The polyether-epoxide composition has a Tg within the range of −40° C. to 60° C. The polyether polyol has a hydroxyl value within the range of 150 to 800 mg KOH/g and an average hydroxyl functionality within the range of 3.5 to 8.0. In some aspects, the polyol composition further comprises a polyester polyol. Low- and elevated-temperature processes catalyzed by bases or Lewis acids for making the polyether-epoxide compositions are also disclosed. In a simple yet innovative approach, a new class of polymers useful for coatings, elastomers, adhesives, sealants, and other valuable products is assembled from readily available starting materials without reliance on polyamines or polyisocyanates.
