摘要： A composition is disclosed that comprises an otherwise flammable flexible polyurethane foam and a multi-component flame retardant additive. The flame retardant additive includes an alkyl substituted aryl phosphate and an alkyl phosphate ester wherein the alkyl groups range from C4 to C20 and contain one to six oxygen atoms in the alkyl chain. Optionally, the flame retardant additive includes a halogenated flame retardant containing more than 30 wt. percent of bromine, chlorine, or a mixture thereof.

摘要： A method of producing decabromodiphenyl alkanes includes the steps of charging a reaction vessel with bromine and a bromination catalyst and introducing a diphenyl alkane into the vessel at a location above the level of the charge bromine and catalyst. A dip tube apparatus for introducing the diphenyl alkane includes an inner tube and an outer tube, each of which are disposed above the surface of the bromine reaction vessel. The inner tube is fitted with a plug having an opening. Diphenyl alkane flows through the inner tube, out the opening in the plug, and into the reactor. The outer tube is disposed around and along the inner tube. Reaction mass from the vessel is recirculated from the vessel, through the outer tube and back to the vessel so as to form a curtain of reaction mass around the stream of diphenyl alkane being simultaneously fed into the reaction vessel.

摘要： The invention is a flame retardant for styrene foams. The flame retardant contains both aromatic bromine and an olefin. The olefin is an internal olefin. Desirable flame retardants are selected from:formula I: wherein R1 is C1-C6 and optionally containing a heteroatom or olefin; R2 is C1-C6 and optionally containing a heteroatom or olefin; and R3-R12 is H, C1-C6 (optionally containing a heteroatom), or halogen; and further wherein the compound of formula I is present in a concentration of at least 50 percent of a trans isomer; formula II: wherein R1 is Halogen, C1-C6 and optionally containing a heteroatom or olefin; R2 is Halogen, C1-C6 and optionally containing a heteroatom or olefin; and R3-R7 is H, C1-C6 (optionally containing a heteroatom), or halogen; and formula III: wherein R1 is Halogen, C1-C6 and optionally containing a heteroatom or olefin; R2 is Halogen, H, C1-C6 and optionally containing a heteroatom or olefin; and R3-R6 is H, halogen.

摘要： Flame retardant flexible polyurethane foam compositions, methods of flame retarding flexible polyurethane foam compositions, articles made therefrom and flame retardants that comprise blends of tetrahalophthalate esters and phosphorus-containing flame retardant having at least about 5 wt. % phosphorus additives. The combined weight of the tetrahalophthalate ester and the phosphorus-containing flame retardant comprises about 5 to about 20% by weight of the flexible polyurethane foam compositions or reaction mixtures. The ratio of the tetrahalophthalate ester to the phosphorus-containing flame retardant is from about 80:20 to about 20:80 percent by weight and preferably from about 60:40 to about 40:60 percent by weight.
