    摘要: A method for preparing tetrabromobenzoate ester from a tetrabromophthalic anhydride including the steps of reacting the tetrabromophthalic anhydride with a catalyst and an alcohol at a temperature that favors partial esterification over complete esterification of the tetrabromophthalic anhydride to form a tetrabromophthalate half-ester reaction mixture; and feeding the half-ester reaction mixture to at least one reactor having and maintaining a temperature that favors decarboxylation over esterification to produce a tetrabromobenzoate ester-containing product. The temperature favoring partial esterification of the tetrabromophthalic anhydride is between about 70° C. and 130° C. The temperature favoring decarboxylation over esterification is between about 190° C. and 205° C. The tetrabromobenzoate ester-containing product comprises at least about 85% tetrabromobenzoate ester. The at least one reactor may include two or more reactors connected to one another in series.

    摘要: A grating system provides enhanced see through characteristics and typically includes longitudinal deep bars, axial crossbars, axial filler bars between the crossbars and longitudinal joining bars which join the crossbars and filler bars to one another. The deep bars are part of a first subassembly and the other bars are part of a second subassembly which may be lowered to join the two subassemblies to one another. The crossbars and filler bars are typically seated on the deep bars. The joining bars are typically above and aligned with the deep bars. The upper surfaces of the crossbars and filler bars are usually substantially flush with one another. The grating system is configured to support vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

    摘要: In a process for producing a tetrabromophthalic diester composition, a liquid reaction mixture is prepared comprising tetrabromophthalic anhydride (TBPA), a C2 to C6 polyhydric aliphatic alcohol (PAA) and an alkylene oxide (AO) selected from the group consisting of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, said reaction mixture being substantially free of an organic solvent. While agitating the reaction mixture, the temperature of the reaction mixture is raised to at least 50° C. to allow the TBPA to react with the PAA and AO to produce a diester composition. The reaction is terminated when the diester composition has an acid value equal to or less than 0.25 mg KOH/gm of the diester composition.

    摘要: An improved grating construction of the type intended for closing or flooring an opening. The construction preferably is formed of aluminum and includes a plurality of spaced, parallel, elongated bearing bars and a plurality of spaced, parallel, elongated, transversely extending crossbars. Each bearing bar has a generally flat, rectangular shape and has a plurality of spaced cutouts formed along a top longitudinal edge thereof. Each cutout comprises an upper rectangular-shaped portion and an outwardly flared lower portion. Each crossbar has a rectangular-shaped top portion and an outwardly flared lower portion, which portions are complementary in shape and size to the upper and lower portions of the bearing bar cutouts. The crossbars are slideably received within a plurality of transversely aligned bearing bar cutouts. The crossbars are deformed or swaged at locations adjacent to and on opposite sides of the cutouts engaged by the crossbars to lock the crossbars in the bearing bars to form the grating. The matching of the shape and size of the crossbar with that of the bearing bar cutouts enables the top surface of the crossbars to be substantially flush with the longitudinal top edges of the bearing bars which provides a generally flat surface for unobstructed walking or other movement on the grating.
