    摘要: A knotless aperture fixation system, and method for use thereof, for securing a flexible material (i.e., suture, cable, fiber tape, or any other suitable flexible material) to a nearby tissue using knotless fixation achieved by a compression fit of the flexible material between two smooth surfaces. The system comprises a cylindrical or spherical flanged sleeve with threaded upper portion and smooth tapered lower portion is used in conjunction with a headless set screw with a bullet-shaped tip to achieve a compression fit of the flexible material between the smooth tapered lower portion of the sleeve and the smooth bullet-shaped tip of the headless set screw. The system may be used in conjunction with an expanded washer with a recessed lip, a flanged washer, or a bone plate with an opening containing a recessed lip.

    摘要: An apparatus for creating an electrical connection with a surgical tool is provided that is capable of engaging the shafts of rotatable surgical tools having varying diameters. In one aspect, the apparatus includes a body of nonconductive material connected to a pair of spaced, electrical contact members that provide two spaced points of contact with the tool shaft. In another aspect, a contact arm is provided which pivots within a slot formed within a housing to receive larger diameter tool shafts. Additionally, the contact arm closes an opening on the housing and resiliently shifts to an open position as the contact arm is brought into engagement with the tool shaft. A method of connecting a conductor assembly to a rotatable tool shaft is also provided which includes using tension in the conductor assembly to resist rotation of a gripping end of the assembly connected to a rotatable tool.

The axial span has an axially articulable geometry, and manifests an angulation mechanism along one or more transverse directions of at least seven degrees across a given spinal level. The angulation mechanism may be associated with joints between structural elements assembled in serial along the axial span, or via a common connection between such structural elements and a restraining element. Rotation between such structural elements can be global. The axial span may have a rod-like profile of a diameter similar to conventional spinal support rods used for lumbar spinal fusion, and provides for use across multiple spinal levels and with multiple adjustable attachment points for associated spine attachment devices to accommodate different patient anatomies.

    摘要: Tools and instruments for use in orthopedic applications for forming openings and/or cavities in anatomical structures, e.g., bone and cartilage structures, are provided. The tools/instruments include a shaft having a distal end and defining a longitudinal axis and a shank disposed at the distal end of the shaft. The shank includes a tapered cutting edge and an adjacent fluted region. The shank is effective to collect and deposit materials generated by a cutting action within an opening or cavity formed thereby. A stop may be mounted with respect to the shaft. The tools/instruments deliver a clean and crisp cut to anatomical structures, thereby facilitating interaction with subsequently delivered plugs and/or implants.
