    摘要: An interactive music playback device includes a sequencer for processing audio information corresponding to a song or other selected piece of music. The audio information may be retrieved from a PCMCIA card or other suitable solid state data storage cartridge which is inserted in a slot in the playback device. The sequencer arranges the audio information in a playback sequence based on one or more user-specified playback parameters, such as tempo, key and playback duration. Voice and instrument synthesizers receive the playback sequence and generate therefrom respective vocal and instrumental portions of the selected piece of music. The playback device may operate in a verse-shuffle mode of operation, in which the sequencer arranges the playback sequence to include randomly-selected verses of the selected piece of music interspersed with a chorus of the selected piece of music. The parameters of the playback sequence may also be varied in accordance with measures of external conditions as received from one or more environmental sensors. The playback device may also include a network connection for use in downloading the audio information from a network to the playback device.

    摘要: The information available to a driver of a vehicle is greatly expanded using wireless communications (e.g., using Bluetooth wireless communication devices). In one embodiment, information regarding an adjacent vehicle such as a brake light, a turn light, speed, distance, direction, etc., is transmitted from one vehicle to a nearby or adjacent other vehicle. The received information is used in any appropriate manner, such as causing the receiving vehicle to change vehicle speed or brake, to turn to avoid a collision, etc. In a second embodiment, roadside wireless transceivers collect information regarding passing vehicles, and central database is compiled relating to a traffic conditions. The traffic condition information can be passed back to the passing vehicles for appropriate use, e.g., causing the driver to slow down, or even causing a navigation device in the receiving vehicle to manually prompt for or automatically recalculate a best route to an intended destination. In yet another embodiment, broadcast transmitters can be established at signs and other significant locations transmitting information to passing vehicles. The broadcast information may be as simple as indicating the existence of the sign, or depending upon the range of the particular wireless transmitter, the existence of a particular sign, bump in road, curve, etc., can be forewarned far in advance of when the driver will actually see the relevant object. Alternatively, the broadcast information may be quite detailed, e.g., containing a detailed itemization and directions to a large number of gas stations, restaurants, etc., reachable from a particular exit from a highway.

    摘要: Identification information is extracted from a current broadcast of a piece or music or other type of information of interest to a user, and stored in a memory or other storage device, in response to a user command. The identification information includes sufficient information to identify at least one deliverable information item associated with the current broadcast, e.g., a CD or MP3 file which contains the particular piece of music. When the user later has access to a wired or wireless network connection, the extracted identification information is delivered over a network connection to a server which processes the delivered information to identify the deliverable information item associated with the broadcast. The user can then purchase the deliverable information item by appropriate interaction with the server. The extracted identification information may be stored in a removable memory device associated with a receiver which receives the broadcast. In this case, the removable memory device is subsequently removed from the receiver and inserted into another device which establishes the network connection for delivery of the identification information to the server.

    摘要: A method and an electronic data processing apparatus for wave synthesis that retains the true qualities of naturally occurring sounds, such as those of musical instruments, speech, or other sounds. Transfer functions representative of recorded sound samples are pre-calculated and stored for use in an interpolative process to generate a transfer function representative of the sound to be synthesized. The preferred transfer functions are Chebyshev polynomial-based transfer functions, which assure a highly predictable harmonic content of synthesized sound. Output sound generation is driven by time domain signals produced by reconversion of a sequence of interpolated transfer functions. Non-harmonic sounds are synthesized using multiple frequency inputs to the reconverting (waveshaping) stage, or by parallel waveshaping stages. Speech sibilants and noise envelopes of instruments are synthesized by the input of noise into the waveshaping stage by modulation of a sinusoid with band-limited noise.
