摘要:
The invention relates to a method for growth of bacteria, such as Gram negative bacteria and its corresponding supernatant. The bacteria are cultivated without substantial release of endotoxins from the bacteria into the surrounding medium. Thereby the need of purification steps necessary to remove endotoxins are reduced or eliminated such as when the bacteria are producing a product which later on should be administered to a mammal, such as a human. The bacteria are also cultivated without substantial formation of acetic acid. The level of the carbon/energy source is controled during the cultivation and oxygen limitation is avoided through regulation of the temperature. The method may be used for cultivation of bacterial in fermenters.

An enzyme electrode based on an oxygen electrode and an oxygen consuming enzyme is described. The oxygen demand of the electrode is satisfied through an electrolytical oxygen production by means of an anode located close to the enzyme and the sensitive surface of the oxygen electrode. The deviation from a reference value, which could be constant or be formed by the signal from an enzymatically passive oxygen electrode, of the oxygen electrode signal, is used to control the electrolysis current in order to keep the oxygen activity in the enzyme electrode constant. The electrolysis current is used as a measure of the concentration of the substrate of the enzyme.

The disclosure relates to a process for the microbiological modification of hardwood in that a microorganism, or an enzymatically active preparation thereof, specially selected for the hardwood in question, is supplied to the surface of the wood for attack thereof under carefully regulated conditions as regards temperature, relative moisture content, O.sub.2 content and CO.sub.2 content. Thereafter, the process is discontinued in a suitable manner, for example by treatment with steam or hot water, followed by drying; or by drying only.

The invention relates to an enzyme electrode which can be sterilized and regenerated and which has a sensitive surface and an enzyme in contact therewith. A semipermeable membrane is arranged at a distance from the sensitive surface of the detecting electrode and defines a chamber containing the enzyme which is supplied to and discharged from the chamber through a supply conduit and a discharge conduit, respectively. A sterilization device for the enzyme is arranged in the supply conduit for the enzyme. The enzyme electrode is produced by means of the detecting electrode being sterilized in a manner known per se and by means of the enzyme being led into a chamber via a sterilization device through a supply conduit for contact with the sensitive surface of the detecting electrode and for contact with the semipermeable membrane arranged at a distance from said sensitive surface. The enzyme is continuously or intermittently supplied through the supply conduit simultaneously as previously supplied enzyme is discharged from the chamber through the discharge conduit.
