The area demodulator demodulates a first demodulation signal and a second demodulation signal having a phase difference of 90° from a read signal by a head of an area demodulation pattern recorded on a medium. The head position demodulator receives the first demodulation signal and the second demodulation signal, and outputs a phase angle indicating a direction of a vector formed in a phase plane by the first demodulation signal and the second demodulation signal as a head position signal.

    摘要: In a magnetic disk unit, a magnetic head to be activated is switched from a first magnetic head to a second magnetic head in accordance with an instruction supplied from a host system in a state where a plurality of magnetic heads are positioned at a cylinder on magnetic disks. The magnetic disk unit includes a digital servo controller for monitoring at predetermined intervals whether or not the instruction for the changing of the magnetic head is supplied from the host system, a first output circuit for outputting a first signal for a predetermined time from a time at which the digital servo controller recognizes that the instruction for the changing of the magnetic head is supplied from the host system, and a second output circuit for outputting a second signal at least from a time at which the instruction for the changing of the magnetic head is input to the magnetic disk unit to a time at which the digital servo controller recognizes that the instruction is supplied from the host system. The first signal and the second signal indicate that the magnetic disk unit is busy adjusting the plurality of magnetic heads so that an off-track error of the second magnetic head is cancelled.

In the method and device, positional information is detected in accordance with servo information including a plurality of positional regions having phase differences between tracks. The positional regions consist of a first positional region in which the phase difference between tracks is +90°, a second positional region in which the phase difference between tracks is −90°, a third positional region in which the phase difference between tracks is +90°, and a fourth positional region in which the phase difference between tracks is −135°. A deviation from a reference track is detected from the phase difference between the vector of a reproduction signal of the second positional region and the vector of a reproduction signal of the fourth positional region. Thus, a wide range of deviation can be detected.
