摘要: This invention is a resistive layer (112, 122) for electrodes (30, 62) comprising at least one partially conductive compound and describes processes for coating the electrodes by way of cataphoretic deposition and/or screen printing of particles of at least one partially conductive compound. A second class of particles, known as a "frit," is also deposited or screen printed. In the subsequent one hour firing, these particles melt and thereby bond the partially conductive compound particles to the electrodes. This invention is also plasma addressing structures (110, 120) in which particles of at least one partially conductive compound are deposited on the electrodes of the display by cataphoretic deposition and/or screen printing. The resulting electrode structures limit and uniformly distribute discharge currents (102) in the operation of ionizable gaseous medium (90) devices, such as plasma addressed liquid crystal displays.

摘要: An apparatus for addressing data storage elements (16) uses an ionizable gas excited by an AC energy source to store an analog datum in and read an analog datum out of each of the storage elements. The storage elements are defined by the overlapping areas of multiple column electrodes (18) extending in a common direction on a first substrate (48) and multiple channels (20) extending in a common direction on a second substrate (54). A layer of dielectric material (46) separates the first and the second substrates, which are positioned face-to-face and spaced-apart with the direction of the channels transverse to that of the column electrodes. Each of the channels is filled with an ionizable gas and includes two row electrodes electrically isolated from each other. At least one of the row electrodes is isolated from the gas by a dielectric coating (65) to prevent nonuniform current flow in certain regions along the length of a channel. The ionizable gas functions as an electrical switch that changes between a conducting or plasma state and a nonconducting or nonionized state in response to phase-displaced AC pulse signals to selectively address and apply analog data to the storage elements.

摘要: A liquid crystal light valve (10) includes compensation for wire shadow effects caused by the interception of writing beam primary electrons as they propagate through the collector electrode (66). The wire shadows stem from the lack of charge deposited on target surface regions ( 106) intended to be addressed by the writing electron beam (60a). The present invention applies to the collector electrode an appropriate voltage that diverts the paths (112) of nonintercepted writing beam electrons toward target surface regions directly below the collector electrode portions that intercepted the writing beam electrons. Diverting the paths of nonintercepted electrons provides a more uniform charge distribution on the target surface (45) and thereby fills the charge voids created by the electron intercepting portions of the collector electrode.

摘要: A method and an apparatus provide an optical switching system (100) which maintains essentially constant transmissivity at its maximum value and develops independent of viewing angle two system optical transmission states of substantially contaminant-free light. The system includes first and second light gates (102 and 104) of which each has associated therewith contaminant light intensity patterns (48 and 66) with points of local maxima (54, 56, 58, 60, 68, and 70) and local minima (62 and 72) in two system optical transmission states. Quarter-wave plates (134 and 136) are positioned between the light gates to develop circular polarization of light propagating between them. The presence of circularly polarized light maintains the system transmissivity at its maximum value while the relative orientation of the light gates is changed to align their contaminant light intensity patterns to block the transmission of contaminant light, and thereby improve the viewing angle performance.

摘要: Chemoluminescent illuminators are used to provide night visible game equipment, notably, croquet and bocce. The balls are hollow metal spheres having plural openings and light stick receptors to retain the light stick in the ball. Light emitted from the light stick escapes from the opaque balls through the openings. The interior surface of the sphere may be treated in a variety of ways to increase light scattering within the hollow interior to define an integrating sphere. Different colored illuminators are provided to mark different balls as relating to different players. Wickets preferably comprise elongate chemoluminescent illuminators that are held in proximity to conventional wickets with torsional springs or with loops formed in the wickets. Wicket holders may also be provided to assist with directly supporting the chemoluminescent illuminators that are used as wickets. Stakes and mallets are provided with receptacles to accept chemoluminescent illuminators so as to illuminate the stakes for nighttime visibility.
