摘要： Surface-treated superabsorbent polymer particles obtained by mixing 100 parts by weight of superabsorbent polymer particles with 0.001 to 10 parts by weight of a hydroxyalkylamide, and heating the surface-treated superabsorbent polymer particles to crosslink molecular chains existing at least in the vicinity of the surfaces of the superabsorbent polymer particles is disclosed. Surface crosslinking the superabsorbent polymer particles with a hydroxyalkylamide substantially increases both the rate of liquid absorption and the quantity of liquid absorbed and retained by the superabsorbent particles.

The superabsorbent gels either comprise a mixture of a poly(vinylamine) polymer and an acidic water-absorbing polymer, like polyacrylic acid, or comprise a salt of a poly(vinylamine) polymer. An improved method of preparing poly(vinylamine), and improved diaper cores, also are disclosed.

A score (106) through the backing allows the package to open upon flexure. At least one additional score on the opposite side provides at least one metered opening in the package. Absorbent material (112) placed over the score, and adhered to the dispensing package only in the area of the score, provides controlled dispensing and application of the contents using essentially an entire surface of the absorbent material as an applicator.
