Abstract: Disclosed are compositions, materials, garments, devices, and methods for controlling or neutralizing offensive odors associated with mammalian urine. For example, disclosed are personal care products (e.g., diapers), deodorizing colloidal compositions, urine-based fertilizers, portable urination systems, and methods of their use. Such deodorizing colloidal compositions, urine-based fertilizers, portable urination systems are characterized in that they contain an acrylate polymer comprising at least one acrylic acid monomer or salt thereof, which imparts an odor-neutralizing effect. Also provided are methods of recovering water from the systems disclosed herein.

Abstract: A nonwoven composite that has a dimension in a machine direction and a cross-machine direction is provided. The composite comprises a nonwoven facing positioned adjacent to an elastic film. The nonwoven facing contains a spunbond web that is formed by necking a base spunbond web. The base spunbond web includes a plurality of fibers generally oriented in the machine direction and exhibiting a machine direction tensile strength and cross-machine direction tensile strength. The ratio of the machine direction tensile strength to the cross-machine direction tensile strength is about 4:1 or more.

Abstract: Bacteria-responsive core-shell nanofibers and a process for the preparation thereof are described. The nanofibers release of an antibacterial agent in response to the presence of bacteria. The core of the nanofiber comprises a biocompatible polymer together with an antibacterial agent such as a quaternary ammonium compound, for example benzyl dimethyl tetradecyl ammonium chloride (BTAC). Surrounding the core is shell comprised of a bacterially degradable polymer, which is susceptible to break-down by bacterial enzymes such as lipase, or to acidic pH conditions. The shell may comprise, for example, polycaprolactone (PCL) and poly(ethylene succinate) (PES). The nanofibers may be incorporated into wound dressings.
