Abstract:
An ergonomic hand support device reduces stress and helps to prevent strain when using a computer pointing device. Attaching the hand support to the mouse with a hinge allows the mouse to lift up off of the surface while the wrist is still being supported.
Abstract:
Tools for fire monitoring are presented. One method includes an operation for accessing values of features for monitoring a fire in a region. The features include satellite images at a first resolution, vegetation information, and weather data. Further, each satellite image includes first cells associated with the geographical region and the first resolution defines a first size of each first cell. The method further includes generating a map of the geographical region comprising a plurality of second cells having a second size, which is smaller than the first size. Additionally, the method includes operations for estimating, using a machine-learning model, probability values for the second cells in the map based on the features, each probability value indicating if the second cell contains an active fire, and for updating the map based on the probability values for the second cells. The map is presented in a user interface.

Abstract:
A method for extracting water from an aqueous solution of a protein comprising the steps of: (a) intermixing the aqueous solution of the protein with a sufficient quantity of at least one glycol ether at a temperature at least 30 centigrade degrees above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), preferably at least 20 centigrade degrees above the LCST, and most preferably at least 10 degrees above the LCST, to form a suspension comprising a concentrated aqueous protein phase and a liquid organic phase comprising said at least one glycol ether and at least 10 percent water extracted from the aqueous solution of the protein, wherein the glycol ether has an inverse solubility in water, with the proviso that the solubility of the glycol ether in water is significantly less than the solubility of water in the glycol ether, and the glycol ether does not significantly deactivate the protein, and (b) separating the concentrated aqueous protein phase formed in step (a) from at least a portion of the liquid organic phase.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a medical instrument, in particular an endoscopic instrument, with an instrument shaft, a tool positioned on the distal end of the instrument shaft, and a handle, which can be secured on the instrument shaft so that it can be moved in an axial extension of the instrument shaft. In order to create an instrument which makes possible a comfortable, safe, and reliable handling even with the most varied application purposes, it is proposed with the invention that the handle can be secured on the instrument shaft so that it can be moved by at least one degree of freedom with respect to the instrument shaft.
Abstract:
Glycol ether acetates, and in particular propylene glycol alkyl (or aryl) ether acetates, can be resolved enzymatically by enantioselective hydrolysis with a hydrolase at high concentrations of substrates; in some embodiments, the hydrolase is a lipase. Glycol ethers, and in particular propylene glycol alkyl (or aryl) ethers, can be resolved enzymatically by enantioselective transesterification with a hydrolase, in the presence of an acyl donor, at high concentrations of substrates; in some embodiments, the hydrolase is a lipase.
Abstract:
A device for supporting at least one arm of an operating person during a surgical or medical operation comprises at least one supporting element for supporting the at least one arm of the operating person, the supporting element being arranged at a carrying structure for carrying the at least one supporting element. The carrying structure is configured such that the at least one supporting element can be lowered or raised for adjusting the height of the operating person's arm. The carrying structure comprises a control mechanism for lowering or raising the at least one supporting element, wherein the control mechanism includes a force load switch for activating the lowering or raising of the at least one supporting element, wherein the force load switch activates the lowering or raising of the at least one supporting element upon detecting compressive and/or tensile forces or motions acting via the at least one supporting element on the force load switch.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for tools for fire monitoring. One method includes an operation for receiving, by a fire forecasting program, fire-related inputs including vegetation data, topography data, weather data, and fire-monitoring information. The fire-monitoring information includes the shape of fire burning in a region. Additionally, the method includes an operation for generating a fire forecast for the region based on the fire-related inputs. The fire forecast describes a state of the fire in the region at multiple times in the future, the state of the fire comprising a fire perimeter, a fire line intensity, and a flame height. Additionally, the method includes operations for receiving updated fire-monitoring information regarding a current state of the fire in the region, for modifying the fire forecast based on the updated fire-monitoring information, and for causing presentation of the fire forecast in a user interface.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide a device and a method of supporting a game controller such as a steering wheel without mounting it to a structure such as a desk or table. The game controller is instead supported on a number of extendable legs which are integral to the controller. In specific embodiments, a game controller with integral legs comprises a base which includes three telescoping legs which move outwardly to the extended position for providing support on the floor in front on the user's seat.
Abstract:
The invention can provide or facilitate systems and methods for feeding a slurry and, in particular, to systems and methods for treating wastewater streams with a slurry having periodic flushing of conduits.
