Solvent laden solids departing the solvent extraction process are subjected to mechanical pressure to squeeze a portion of the liquid solvent through a perforated surface, into a collection hopper. This liquid solvent is subsequently recycled back to the solvent extraction process for liquid clarification and additional oil recovery.

    摘要: An improved desolventizer toaster and methods are provided wherein a solvent vapor recycle system may be employed to recycle solvent vapor throughout a portion of the desolventizer portion of the apparatus housing. In other embodiments of the invention, a water vapor recycle system may be employed to recycle water vapor throughout a portion of the toaster portion of the apparatus housing. The solvent vapor recycle system may comprise an appropriate meal dust separator, blower and superheater. The water vapor recycle system may comprise an appropriate ejector or blower and superheater. Water vapor recovered in the solvent extraction process may be used as a water vapor feed to the heated water vapor recycling system.

    摘要: An apparatus for the solvent extraction of oil-bearing materials having a two-deck (18, 24), loop-shaped housing (12) is provided. The apparatus has a feed inlet (40) for the materials and an outlet (66) for the solvent-wet extracted materials. An assembly (42) of two or more endless chains (44) are connected by a series of baffle plates (46) and driven by a set of two or more drive sprockets (90) that transport the materials from the feed inlet (40) to the outlet (66) over an upper deck (18), along an elbow (30) and over a lower deck (24) the end of which serves as a draining section (82), both of which decks retain the materials but let miscella pass through. Inside the housing (12), the materials are sprayed with solvent that percolates through the materials and is collected below the decks and sprayed again onto the materials in a counter-current manner. In one embodiment, the apparatus further includes means to forward the oil-bearing materials being extracted from the upper deck (18) to the lower deck (24) through a chute (58) before the materials reach the elbow (30). In another embodiment, the apparatus further includes means of positioning the symmetrical chain (44) with respect to the lower deck (24) in the same way as the chain (44) is positioned with respect to the upper deck (18); use of symmetrical chains (44) and concomitant means of positioning the symmetrical chains with respect to the lower deck (24) in the same way as the chains (44) are positioned with respect to the upper deck (18). In another embodiment, the apparatus further includes means to create and maintain a pressure drop over the material being transported along the draining section (82).

    摘要: An improved rotating basket extractor is provided having improved discharge means comprising a hopper section having a solid material entry and solid material exit end. The cross sectional area of the solid material entry end is smaller than the exit end so as to help prevent the agglomeration of solid material in the discharge hopper as it exits from the rotating baskets to a dual screw conveyor for subsequent travel to a discharge chute. The discharge hopper and the housing for the dual screw conveyor comprise slot means to provide for additional drainage of miscella therethrough. Additionally, the axially disposed rotatable shaft, supporting the rotating baskets, is journalled in a thrust bearing provided contiguous to the flooring substrate. Location of the thrust bearing there helps to minimize bearing contamination and corrosion.

    摘要: Improved desolventizer of the countercurrent type. Solvent laden solids enter a closed chamber wherein they are continuously agitated by stirrers. Steam from below rises up through a porous deck and the solids thereon whereupon the steam condenses to release its heat of vaporization thereby aiding in the evaporation of solvent in the solids. The desolventized solids exit the chamber through a discharge passage. The deck includes generally radially spaced apart, substantially parallel stainless steel bars supported on substantially radially extending carbon steel supports. The spaces or slots thereby defined by the bars define an open area covering up to about 30% of the surface area of the deck. The gaps between the bars are sufficiently narrow so as to reduce the likelihood of the solids being worked into the gaps. The bars have a cross sectional profile having a greater width at their top and a lesser width at their bottom so as to promote clearing of any material that might have been worked therebetween from the top side.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for treating oil-bearing material which includes an extruder having an elongated enclosure with an inlet end. The extruder also includes a worm assembly for working and advancing the material through the enclosure from the inlet end to the discharge end. A high pressure region is located adjacent the extruder inlet end. A force feeder provides material to the high pressure region at a specified supply rate. Oil in the material is liberated and drained in the high pressure region to a specified level prior to entry of the material into the extruder inlet end. The apparatus also includes an outlet in the high pressure region for drainage of the released oil, as well as a screen over the outlet to prevent material greater than a specified size from exiting the high pressure region through the outlet. The seed material is mechanically worked via the action of a rotating screw in the extruder. At the same time, steam is injected into the extruder to condition the worked seed material. The extruder is devoid of any slots or the like which would permit further oil drainage in the extruder section. The material is worked and conditioned as it is transported through the extruder. It is forced through a die orifice to form conditioned, uniform pellets of reduced oil content.

    摘要: A rotatable basket extractor for use in extracting oil from oleaginous feed material is disclosed. The extractor includes a rotatable rotor that includes a plurality of baskets extending radially outward from a central shaft, and the baskets receive and transport the oleaginous feed material while a motor rotates the baskets between a feed inlet and a feed outlet. The rotor is located within a housing and positioned above a screen through which miscella that drains from the feed material passes. The miscella is collected in a trough located below the screen and is sprayed onto the feed material bed positioned within the baskets in a counter-current manner. A suction device pulls vapor down between the particles of the feed material bed to decrease the drainage time of the miscella through the feed material.
