The ferrite sintered body of the present invention is a hexagonal Z-type ferrite sintered body having a high permeability and a low anisotropy of permeability, comprising a c-axis-oriented plane in which a degree of orientation fc⊥ is not less than 0.4, said degree of orientation being given as fc⊥=ΣI(HK0)/ΣI(HKL), when I(HKL) is the integrated intensity of a diffraction peak represented by an index (HKL) in an X-ray diffraction pattern of which measurement range is 2θ=20 to 80°, wherein the degree of orientation fc∥ calculated from fc∥=I(0018)/I(110) in an X-ray diffraction is not less than 0.3 in at least two planes which are perpendicular to the aforementioned c-axis-oriented plane and are perpendicular to each other. Where ΣI(HKL) is the sum of integrated intensity of all the diffraction peaks of hexagonal Z-type ferrite.

Further, the rate of a spinel-type ferrite phase to entire phases including a Z-type ferrite phase and the spinel-type ferrite phase is 5% or less in terms of an area ratio in the cross section of the sintered body.

In a coil component of the present invention, a coil member having a plurality of coil lines laminated through an insulating layer is sandwiched by hexagonal ferrite substrates, and the hexagonal ferrite substrate has anisotropy. To have the “anisotropy” means that alignment of the crystal orientation is different according to a direction of the substrate, in other words, that anisotropy is provided in the c-axis orientation of ferrite crystal grains of the hexagonal ferrite substrate. As the result of the “anisotropy”, an initial magnetic permeability is also different according to direction. By using the hexagonal ferrite substrate as a magnetic substrate to sandwich the coil member so as to form a magnetic path, the initial magnetic permeability can be maintained up to a high frequency, and a high-frequency characteristic of impedance generated by the coil lines can be improved.
