An electrophotographic developing roller in which air tightness and electrical conductivity in a fit section between a cylindrical metal base body and a metal flange are satisfactory and outside diameter deflection accuracy is satisfactory; and an electrophotographic developing roller which is relatively inexpensive, excellent in mechanical rigidity, surface processability and plating film formation (corrosion resistance) and capable of being satisfied with a prescribed dimensional accuracy are provided. The electrophotographic developing roller is a developing roller having a cylindrical metal base body and a metal flange. The metal flange has a larger diameter section to be fitted in the opening end inner surface of the cylindrical metal base body and a smaller diameter section serving as a central shaft body coaxial with the cylindrical metal base body. The fit section surface of the larger diameter section before being press fitted has an uneven shape such that a maximum surface roughness Ry due to a circumferential groove formed by cutting processing is from 25 μm to 70 μm.

The cylindrical developer carrier includes an electrically conductive substrate having an evenly roughened surface, and an alumite layer formed on the roughened surface, wherein the alumite layer has a uniform distribution of minute holes that reach the substrate surface. A method for manufacturing the cylindrical developer carrier includes roughening the electrically conductive substrate surface by blasting it with spherical fine particles, forming the alumite layer on the roughened surface by an anodizing method, and blasting the surface of the alumite-layer with amorphous fine particles that a diameter greater than that of the spherical fine particles.

An electrophotographic photoconductor includes an electrically conductive substrate in the form of a cylindrical tube, the substrate having an outer surface roughened by dry-blasting to a maximum surface roughness of about 5 .mu.m or less, and a photoconductive layer on the substrate. Preferably, the substrate is aluminum or an aluminum alloy and has an inner diameter and a thickness related to each other in a ratio of inner diameter to thickness of 75 or less. The substrate preferably has not been preliminarily finished by cutting. Preferably, the electrophotographic photoconductor comprises an oxide film between the substrate and the photoconductive layer, the oxide film covering 75% or more of the outer surface of the substrate. In a preferred embodiment, the electrophotographic photoconductor further comprises an undercoating layer between the oxide film and the photoconductive layer, the undercoating layer composed substantially of an organic resin and having a thickness of about 5 .mu.m or less. According to another embodiment of the invention, there is provided a method of manufacturing an electrophotographic photoconductor, the electrophotographic photoconductor comprising an electrically conductive substrate in the form of a cylindrical tube, the method including the steps of: roughening by dry-blasting the outer surface of the substrate to a maximum surface roughness of about 5 .mu.m or less using abrasives with a grain size of about #500 or finer; and forming a photoconductive layer on the roughened outer surface.

A drive current and a regenerative current are alternately applied to a motor during a PWM (pulse width modulation) time period. The regenerative current is produced by an electromagnetic induction of an armature and flows in the opposite direction as the drive current. Therefore, a rotating speed of the motor is reduced, so that a speed-reduction following characteristic for the motor is improved. By varying the duty factor, the lengths of time during which the drive current and the regenerative current are flowing can be controlled. Thus, the speed of the motor can be controlled.

Polyphenylene sulfone fibers mainly consisting of a structural unit represented by a general formula ##STR1## (x is 0 or 1 or 2) wherein x, the average value of x, is 1.0 to 2.0, and a method for production thereof. These fibers are prepared by modifying polyphenylene sulfide fibers, whose specific surface area and degree of orientation are more than 0.4 m.sup.2 /g and more than 70%, respectively, to polyphenylene sulfone fibers represented by a main constituting unit with organic peroxides. These fibers have excellent heat and chemical resistance.

A balance mechanism of an industrial robot is provided with a first balance mechanism for a first arm which is swingably mounted to a stand of the robot and a second balance mechanism for a second arm which is swingably mounted to a distal end of the first arm. The first balance mechanism includes a flexible coupling device such as, for example, a chain, led through a guide, which couples between a coupling element of a coupling member which is mounted to a center of angular movement of a proximal end of the first arm and a spring having one end fixed to the stand and which is moved in the direction of deformation when the first arm is angularly moved. The second balance mechanism includes a counterbalancer disposed in the opposite side to an operation side of the second arm and a center of angular movement of the second arm constitutes a fulcrum. The balance mechanisms can be applied to the robot without exchanging parts greatly even if the robot is installed in any position.

The titanyloxyphthalocyanine molecular aggregate contains between 0.006 to 1.000 water molecules per titanyloxyphthalocyanine molecule. The titanyloxyphthalocyanine molecular aggregate exhibits an X-ray diffraction spectrum, measured using CuK.alpha. radiation, having clear peaks at angles of 7.2.degree., 9.6.degree., 11.6.degree., 13.4.degree., 14.9.degree., 18.3.degree., 23.6.degree., 24.1.degree. and 27.3.degree., the peak at 9.6.degree. being the highest, the spectrum lacking a peak at 26.3.degree., and the angles being 2 .theta..+-.0.2.degree., where .theta. is a diffraction angle. A function-separation-type electrophotographic photoconductor includes the titanyloxyphthalocyanine molecular aggregate of the present invention in the charge generation layer. A monolayer-type electrophotographic photoconductor includes the titanyloxyphthalocyanine molecular aggregate of the present invention in the photoconductive layer.
