    摘要: A control circuit receives data input by the user through an operable monitor, attaches a data-encoding instruction to the input data, and supplies the instruction-attached input data to an IC card reader/writer. Upon receiving the instruction-attached input data, the IC card reader/writer reads encoding key data stored in an IC card, thereby encoding the data and returning it to the control circuit. The control circuit, in turn, modifies the returned encoded data in the form of communicable data, and supplies a communication circuit with the modified encoded data and an instruction to transmit the data. Upon receiving the modified encoded data and instruction, the communication circuit transmits the modified encoded data to a host computer via a communication line.

    摘要: An IC card terminal device reads functions stored in an IC card inserted therein, and displays them on its screen. The card user selects that one of the functions, which they intend to execute. The IC card terminal device determines whether or not it has an application corresponding to the selected function. If the terminal device does not have the application, it reads information stored in the IC card and related to the function. On the basis of the information, the terminal device is connected to a host apparatus as a service provider, thereby downloading a necessary application therefrom. After that, the downloaded application corresponding to the selected function is executed.

    摘要: In an overcurrent protection circuit, when a control section turns on a switch in response to a signal from a microcomputer so that power is supplied from a power source to an IC card, a signal controlling section prevents the overcurrent protection circuit from functioning even if a current greater than a predetermined level is detected by a current detecting section, until a voltage of the IC card is stabilized. When the control section turns off the switch in response to a signal from the microcomputer, the power supply from the power source to the IC card is stopped, thereby preventing a malfunction of the overcurrent protection circuit, even if the microcomputer goes out of control or malfunctions.

    摘要: A system for reducing power consumption in a battery powered terminal device is provided. The device includes a keyboard for inputting data to the terminal device. A processor is arranged for processing the data input by the keyboard. A System program suspends operation of the terminal when the data is not inputted by the keyboard. A Battery supplies power to the terminal device components. A timer is provided for counting a predetermined number of clock cycles from when the processor is suspended, and generating an interrupt signal to activate the processor when the predetermined number of clock cycles has elapsed. The system program generates data indicative of a battery power failure when the battery power drops below a certain value after the processor is activated by the timer. A switch suspends the battery power supply of the battery when the data is generated by the system program.
