    摘要: An apparatus for forming a cabling media using a wire pair including first and second conductor members, each of the first and second conductor members including a respective conductor and a respective insulation cover surrounding the conductor thereof, includes a wire pair twisting device and a wire pair twist modulator. The wire pair twisting device is adapted to twist the first and second conductor members about one another to form a twisted wire pair. The wire pair twist modulator is upstream of the wire pair twisting device. The wire pair twist modulator includes an engagement member to hold the first and second conductor members at a hold location to restrict rotation of the first and second conductor members about one another. The apparatus defines a twist zone extending from the hold location to a twist initiation location of the wire pair twisting device. The wire pair twist modulator is operable to move the engagement member along a control axis to modulate the length of the twist zone and thereby the twist length of the wire pair to form the twisted wire pair with a twist length that purposefully varies along a length of the twisted wire pair.

In alternative or supplemental embodiments of the invention, the first insulated conductor includes a first conductor surrounded by a layer of first dielectric insulating material having a radial thickness of about 7 mils or less; the first dielectric tape has a first width which is equal to or less than the diameters of the first and second insulated conductors plus a thickness of the first dielectric tape; the first dielectric tape has a cross sectional shape, which presents first and second recessed portions for seating the first and second insulated conductors; twist lengths of the first and second twisted pairs are between approximately 0.22 to 0.38 inches and different from each other; the first dielectric tape is different in shape, size or material content as compared to a second dielectric tape of the second twisted pair; the insulated conductors of the first and second twisted pairs are identical in appearance, while the first and second dielectric tapes are different in appearance; and/or the first dielectric tape has a hollow core possessing a gas or material with a lower dielectric constant.

    摘要: An apparatus for forming a cabling media using a wire pair including first and second conductor members, each of the first and second conductor members including a respective conductor and a respective insulation cover surrounding the conductor thereof, includes a wire pair twisting device and a wire pair twist modulator. The wire pair twisting device is adapted to twist the first and second conductor members about one another to form a twisted wire pair. The wire pair twist modulator is upstream of the wire pair twisting device. The wire pair twist modulator includes an engagement member to hold the first and second conductor members at a hold location to restrict rotation of the first and second conductor members about one another. The apparatus defines a twist zone extending from the hold location to a twist initiation location of the wire pair twisting device. The wire pair twist modulator is operable to move the engagement member along a control axis to modulate the length of the twist zone and thereby the twist length of the wire pair to form the twisted wire pair with a twist length that purposefully varies along a length of the twisted wire pair.

    摘要: A coaxial cable [10, 50] includes an inner conductor [11] that is separated from an outer conductor [13] by a layer of insulating material [12]. The outer conductor includes a thin sheet of metallic foil that envelops the insulating material and has a seam [14] that extends in the longitudinal direction of the cable. In a first embodiment, the insulated conductor is axially rotated (twisted) with respect to its own longitudinal axis. In a second embodiment, the outer conductor is wrapped around the layer of insulating material. In both embodiments, there is relative rotation between the insulated conductor and the outer conductor. This practice is referred to as relative insulated conductor rotation, and it significantly improves the structural return loss characteristics of a coaxial cable when the outer conductor includes an asymmetry, such as a seam, that extends in the longitudinal direction of the cable. A braided-wire shield [15] is positioned between the outer conductor and a plastic jacket [16], which provides environmental protection for the cable.
