Example types of indicators include a base station and sector identifier of a base station sector dedicated to a particular building, a delay associated with a radio frequency signal used by the mobile station when communicating from a particular building location or a combination of cell codes reported by a mobile station when it is within a particular building location. One or more of such indicators provides an indication of a building location from which the mobile station has placed a call. That building location can then be used as the determined mobile station location.

A disclosed assembly avoids base station desensitization and positive feedback. Another disclosed technique maintains a selected minimum link budget within the building.

    摘要: A wireless communication arrangement provides GPS coverage in areas where GPS satellites or macrocells are not directly detectable by a mobile station that is used for placing an emergency call. A detector detects a plurality of GPS satellites and provides a composite GPS signal that is re-radiated through a distributed antenna system to provide GPS signal coverage within a selected area such as inside of a building. The signal reach at each re-radiator assembly is individually controlled to keep the composite GPS signal coverage area within a selected limit. A mobile station used to place an emergency call reports the composite GPS signal information in a data call or SMS message that is associated with the emergency voice call. That information is then used for GEO-location to determine the location of the mobile station. A disclosed example includes a technique for addressing a scenario where a mobile station directly detects a satellite and detects the composite GPS signal.

    摘要: A wireless communication system is disclosed where a hub base station has an associated scheduler. Remotely located subscriber stations such as customer premises equipment devices each have their own associated scheduler in the vicinity of each device. The hub base station scheduler is responsible for scheduling communications in a first direction between the hub base station and the subscriber stations. Each subscriber station scheduler is responsible for scheduling communications in a second, opposite direction between the corresponding subscriber station and the hub base station. In one example, the schedulers associated with the subscriber stations are responsible for scheduling all backhaul or uplink communications from the subscriber station to the base station. A disclosed example is useful for WiMax communications.

    摘要: Handoffs within a wireless communication system (20) include using a common cell definition code for each of a plurality of microcell BTSs (30, 40, 50) to facilitate handoffs between a macrocell (26) and any one of the microcells. In a disclosed example, a common cell definition code such as a PN offset or a scrambling code is used to trigger a handoff from the macrocell (26) to any one of the microcell BTSs (30, 40, 50). A mobile station locate feature identifies which of the BTSs is involved in the handoff. Another common cell definition code is used in one example to trigger all handoffs from any one of the microcells (30, 40, 50) to the macrocell (26). Soft handoff and hard handoff examples are disclosed.
