    摘要： Transmitting messages to mobile telephones includes determining a time a standard requires or permits a standard compliant transmission to be received by a user, and scheduling a transmission by a base station to the user in the future based on a distance between the user and a base station such that the transmission will be received by the user at the determined time. The distance between the user and the base station is a distance such that a propagation delay between the user and the base station is larger than a propagation delay accommodated by the standard.

    摘要： Effects of variation in computational latency can be controlled by using a processor to perform computations associated with a signal processing process, each computation related to processing an input sample to generate an output, and allocating a processing cost per computation that is less than a maximum processing cost of the processor for performing any one of the computations and greater than an average processing cost of the processor for performing the computations. The allocated processing cost for a computation is an allocated time period between receipt of the input sample and generation of the output for the computation. A task requiring a processing time greater than the allocated processing cost is handled as a source of jitter in the signal processing process.

    摘要： A multi-element writing instrument is disclosed wherein the rotation of a selection portion located at one end of the instrument successively selects, advances and retracts individual writing elements. The writing point of each selected writing element is axially advanced through the exit opening without contact with the interior of the body of the instrument. In the writing position the axis of the selected element is aligned with the axis of the instrument. The novel construction permits the use of elements that employ different types of nibs, for example porous writing points, either alone or in combination with ball point-tipped elements.

    摘要： A multi-element writing instrument is disclosed for use in computer-operated plotters or similar graphics systems. Successive applications of a linear force applied along the axis of the instrument are converted to rotary motion which is employed to select successive elongate writing elements normally positioned at a uniform radial spacing from the axis of the writing instrument. Each selected element is displaced in a substantially axial direction a distance sufficient to extend the writing point of the element through the exit opening of the instrument.
