Abstract:
The internal phase and paper fibres of waste capsule-coated paper is reclaimed by disposing in a container a batch of the paper the density of which is such as to permit the flow of a solution between strips forming the batch, removing the internal phase by pumping into the container a solvent capable of penetrating the walls of the capsules and which has a boiling point lower than that of the internal phase thereby to form an internal phase/solvent solution, then displacing the solution, distilling the solution to recover the solvent and the internal phase, and then removing the treated batch from the container.
Abstract:
A capsule-carrying sheet or web, e.g. a sheet carrying capsules containing a colour-reactant material for use in a pressuresensitive copying system, in which one surface of the sheet or web carries a coating incorporating the capsules, together with starch particles acting as a protection for the capsules against accidental rupture and a protein binder binding the capsules and starch particles together on the surface, both the starch particles and the protein binder being derived from a common milled flour source, e.g. by agitation of an aqueous suspension of the milled flour.
Abstract:
THE INVENTION CONCERNS A POLYOLEFIN SURFACE TREATED WITH A COATING OF AN ACIDIC COMPOSITION WHICH COMPRISES AQUEOUS SILICA SOL, AN ACID STABLE WATER INSOLUBLE FILM FORMING MATERIAL, SURFACE AGENTS TO KEEP THE FILM FORMING MATERIAL AS A STABLE SUSPENSION IN THE COMPOSITION, AND AN ACID. THE COMPOSITION IS COATED ONTO THE POLYOLEFIN AS AN AQUEOUS COMPOSITION AND DRIED. THE TREATMENT RENDERS THE POLYOLEFIN SURFACE ADHERENT TO, FOR EXAMPLE, PHOTOGRAPH EMULSION, PRINTING INKS AND ADHESIVES.
Abstract:
The invention is concerned with coated paper. By precoating paper with starch and insolubilized alginate, the amount of transferable coating e.g. in record materials, needed per unit area can be reduced. This advantage can be achieved with small amounts of alginate, e.g. less than 0.05 gram per square meter per side, and high starch to alginate weight ratios e.g. 85:1.
Abstract:
A SYNTHETIC RESIN COMPOSITION WHICH CONTAINS ANTIMONY TRIOXIDE AND AN OPTICAL BRIGHTENING AGENT FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PHOTOGRAPH SUPPORT MATERIALS. THE COMPOSITION IS USED IN SHEET FORM OR COATED ON TO A BASE OF PAPER OR BOARD. THE SYNTHETIC RESIN COMPOSITION SURFACE CAN BE SENSITIZED WITH A PHOTOGRAPH EMULSION OR COATED WITH SILVER PRECIPITATION NUCLEI.
Abstract:
A web of paper drawn from a reel is slit longitudinally by knives to form a plurality of ribbons of equal width. The knives are mounted on position-adjusting means arranged simultaneously to adjust the positions of the knives relative to the centerline of the reel in order to determine the width of the ribbons. The ribbons may be engaged by a first set of turner bars which turn the direction of movement of the ribbons through 90* and by a second set of burner bars which again turns the direction of movement of the ribbons through 90* to superimpose them one over the other. Ribbons may be slit from webs drawn separately from two reels and by the turner bars be superimposed one over the other.
Abstract:
A GRINDING MACHINE COMPRISES A GRINDING A WHEEL FOR GRINDING A CIRCUMFERENTIAL SURFACE OF A WORKPIECE OF CIRCULAR CROSS-SECTION SUCH AS A STEEL ROLL, TRAVERSING MEANS ADAPTED TO EFFECT RELATIVE LONGITUDINAL TRAVERSING MOVEMENT IN THE DIRECTION OF THE AXIS OF THE WORKPIECE, BETWEEN THE GRINDING WHEEL AND THE WORKPIECE, ROTARY MEANS FOR ROTATING THE WORKPIECE WHILE IT IS BEING GROUND, GAUGING MEANS FOR DETERMINING, WHILE THE GRINDING WHEEL IS GRINDING THE WORKPIECE, ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DATUM VALUE AND THE DIAMETER OF THE PARTICULAR CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE WORKPIECE ON WHICH THE GRINDING WHEEL IS ACTING MEANS, CONTROLLED BY THE GAUGING MEANS, FOR ADJUSTING THE POSITION OF THE GRINDING WHEEL IN A SENSE TO BRING SAID DIFFERENCE TO A PREDETERMINED VALUE, A MOVABLE DATUM MEMBER PROVIDING SAID DATUM VALUE, A CAM ROTATION OF WHICH IS ADAPTED TO EFFECT ADJUSTMENT OF THE POSITION OF SAID DATUM MEMBER, THEREBY ADJUSTING THE DATUM VALUE, CONTROL MEANS, ACTUATED BY THE TRAVERSING MEANS, AND
CONTROLLING THE CAM DRIVING MEANS IN A MANNER TO RELATE THE ROTATIONAL POSITION OF THE CAM TO THE POSITION OF THE TRAVERSING MEANS, THE CONTROL MEANS BEING ADJUSTABLE IN A MANNER TO VARY THE RELATION BETWEEN THE ROTATIONAL POSITION OF THE CAM AND THE POSITION OF THE TRAVERSING MEANS.
Abstract:
Water-repellent non-woven fibrous sheet material is formed from a suspension of fibres in a foam containing a liquid medium, a gas, and a surface active agent. The sheet material formed from the suspension is treated to destroy the surface active agent via chemical reaction with polyvalent metal cations and is then saturated with an organic water-repellent material and is heated to effect drying of the sheet material.
Abstract:
Sheet material to be dried is conveyed through a drying region where a combination of radiant heat and heated gas is directed towards the material. The proportion of radiant heat relative to the amount of heated gas is adjusted through the drying region so that a higher radiant heat/heated gas ratio is provided at the end of the path than at the beginning of the path.
Abstract:
A fibrous web is parchmentized by drawing the web from a parchmentizing bath and passing it through successive washing positions and the feature of the invention resides in maintaining at a substantially constant level the temperature of the washing liquid at the first washing position.
