    摘要: A release holding mechanism for a railcar hand brake includes a release shaft rotatably mounted in the housing. A quick release handle is rigidly secured to an external end of the release shaft for rotation therewith and manually rotatable into a release position to initiate the quick release of the railcar brake application. A release lever cooperates with a driving mechanism of the hand brake to effect quick release of the railcar brake application. A release ratchet wheel is mounted for rotation with the driving mechanism. A release pawl operably engages the release ratchet wheel when the driving mechanism rotated for releasing the brake application. A gravity weighted member is disposed on and rigidly secured to the release lever for maintaining the release pawl, due to gravity, in a disengaged position relative to the release ratchet wheel when the driving mechanism is manually operable for effecting the brake application.

    摘要: An articulated coupling apparatus utilized in connecting together, in a substantially semi-permanent fashion, adjacently disposed ends of a pair of railway cars includes male and female connection members. A front and rear followers, each having a spherical cavity, are positioned within the female connection member. First and second lubricating liners are positioned within such spherical cavities and a spherical member is operably caged between such lubricating liners. A shaft is attached to the spherical member and extends outwardly from the female connection member for secure connection to the male connection member. A pair of wedges are mounted adjacent the rear surface of the rear follower and exert a force onto such rear follower moving it toward the spherical member and further toward the front follower to compensate for wear of the mating spherical surfaces during service and to prevent formation of a gap between the mating surfaces.

    摘要: A spring applied parking brake assembly for a railway vehicle is provided which automatically activates upon removal of a railway car from the pneumatic braking system of the railway vehicle. The spring applied parking brake assembly comprises a casing which is mounted on or within the braking system, typically alongside the air cylinder. This casing contains a spring member and a piston assembly, both of which are mounted for longitudinal movement within the casing upon the application and/or removal of pneumatic pressure within the casing. The piston assembly includes a piston rod which is associated with the force transfer lever of the braking system such that upon a removal of pneumatic pressure within the casing, longitudinal movement of the piston rod causes this force transfer lever to rotate and apply a force to at least one force transmitting member in the vehicle braking system to initiate a brake application. An arrangement or system for installing the spring applied parking brake assembly within a railway vehicle braking system is also provided.

    摘要: An interlocking mechanism is positioned intermediate first and second end portions of a drawbar member portion of a slackless type drawbar assembly utilized in coupling adjacently disposed ends of a pair of railway freight cars together in a substantially semipermanent fashion. Such interlocking mechanism includes a first elongated member engageable at a first end thereof to an end of a first male connection member. A first at least one plate like member is disposed at a second end of the first elongated member of such interlocking mechanism. There is a first elongated slot formed through such first at least one plate like member. A second elongated member is engageable at a first end thereof to an end of a second male connection member. A second at least one plate like member is disposed at a second end of this second elongated member of such interlocking mechanism and a second elongated slot is formed through such second at least one plate like member which is positioned in alignment with such first elongated slot formed through the first at least one plate like member. There is a plate like connection member disposed in the first elongated slot formed through such first at least one plate like member and the second elongated slot formed through such second at least one plate like member for connecting such first elongated member of the interlocking mechanism to the second elongated member of such interlocking mechanism.

A male member includes a first end movably disposed in such cavity and a second end. An aperture is formed through such male member first end. A portion of a spherical shaped member is disposed in such aperture. A pair of shaft members extend from outer surfaces of such spherical member. A portion of each shaft member is disposed in respective side wall openings. Each shaft member has a flat surface formed thereon. A race having a portion thereof disposed in such aperture and secured to such male member. The race inner surface is disposed around the spherical member. A pair of wedges, a surface of one wedge engages one of such shaft members flat surfaces and another surface of such one wedge engages a flat vertical surface formed on one side wall adjacent a portion of such first opening and a surface of the other wedge engages another of such flat surfaces formed on such shaft members and another surface of such another wedge engages a flat vertical surface formed on a second side wall adjacent a portion of such second opening. A securing device secures such second end of such male member to a second end of another male member.

    摘要: An assembly mechanism is provided for removably securing a bearing assembly carried by a male connection member to a female connection member of an articulated coupling system. Such assembly mechanism includes at least one vertically disposed lug member secured to an outer surface of a vertically disposed side wall of a cavity formed in one end of such female connection member adjacent an opening formed in such side wall portion. There is at least one horizontally disposed lug member secured to such outer surface adjacent another portion of such opening in such side wall portion. A locking member is engageable with each of such vertical lug member and such horizontal lug member and a portion of a shaft-like member extending outwardly from such bearing assembly. The locking member removably secures such shaft-like member against rotation in such opening. A locking device is engageable with such locking member and such vertical lug member and such horizontal lug member which locks such locking member in a secure manner to such verticl lug member and such horizontal lug member.

    摘要: Apparatus for circumferentially crimping the annular opposite ends of a cylindrical overtravel spring housing used in a slack adjuster and for maintaining the overtravel spring assembly in assembled relation and an overtravel spring therein in a compressed state. The apparatus includes a three-jaw lathe-type power chuck fixed to a support frame vertically opposite a power cylinder supported on another portion of the frame. The overtravel spring assembly is placed on a post member, fixed concentrically in the chuck, and held fast by the power cylinder when pressurized. With the spring assembly secured in the apparatus, a plurality of crimping blades carried on the jaws of the chuck are actuated to crimp a first annular end of the spring assembly housing, then removing the spring assembly and turning it over in the apparatus to crimp the other end of the housing, thereby securing the spring assembly in assembled relation.

    摘要: A parking brake assembly for a railway car includes a ratchet mounted for rotation on a threaded piston rod of a brake actuator and a holding pawl engageable with the ratchet for maintaining a push rod of the parking brake assembly to apply braking force when the air pressure is lost in the brake pipe and releasing the push rod to accordingly release the braking force when the supply of air pressure in the brake pipe is restored. An operating lever and a cylinder connected thereto are provided for selectively rotating the holding pawl. Valve is provided for supplying air pressure to and evacuating it from the cylinder. Release mechanism is provided for manually releasing the braking force. The parking brake assembly is employed with either truck-mounted or carbody-mounted braking system.
