    摘要: A power door operator for transit vehicles utilizing a rodless pneumatic cylinder as a prime mover in opening and closing doors in the sidewall of a transit vehicles. Door movement having a controlled, predetermined door edge force is achieved through mechanical coupling an external piston of the rodless cylinder and vehicle doors through and endless toothed belt. Magnetic coupling between internal and external pistons of the cylinder provide controlled force having a maximum or breakaway value applied to the operated door. A novel reaction lock operated by admission of pressurized air to the cylinder latches or unlatches the operated door in its closed position subsequent or prior to door closing or opening. Control of door motion at the ends of its travel is achieved through the use of a novel differential area internal piston in the pneumatic cylinder. Available internal piston force is modified for predetermined piston positions on approaching either end of the cylinder through the use of a sliding rod contained by the pressure sensitive internal position. Movement of the sliding rod adjust the effective piston area so as to modify available force to controlling door motion. An additional embodiment of the invention disclosed utilizes direct panel locking means independent of the operator drive belt.

    摘要: An overtravel spring assembly including a helical-type spring secured in a cylindrical housing in a prestressed state between retaining washers inserted adjacent the opposite ends of the housing. The spring is coaxially disposed in the assembly between the inner surface of the housing and the outer surface of a sleeve member inserted within the spring, thereby retaining the spring in a symmetrically coiled state, that is, preventing radial distortion or buckling of the spring spring when subjected to operating stress. The entire spring assembly is retained in its assembled state by radially crimping the opposite ends of the housing against the outer radial surfaces of the retaining washers. The overtravel spring assembly is used in an automatic slack adjuster for vehicle brakes for measuring the extent of overtravel of the piston rod due to excessive wear of the brake shoes.

    摘要: A fluid pressure operable jacking tool having oppositely disposed locking arms. With the draft key and coupler removed, the locking arms of the jacking tool, when installed, biasingly engage the coupler cross key slots formed in the draft gear yoke, so that a fluid pressure powered ram of the jacking tool abuts against the draft gear follower. A fluid pressure line is connected to the jacking tool and, when provided with fluid pressure, causes the jacking tool ram head to compress the draft gear to allow removal of the draft gear and jacking tool from the car center sill together. Once removed, pressure is released from the jacking tool to permit separation thereof from the draft gear. If the draft gear is to be installed, a reverse procedure would be employed.

    摘要: Apparatus for circumferentially crimping the annular opposite ends of a cylindrical overtravel spring housing used in a slack adjuster and for maintaining the overtravel spring assembly in assembled relation and an overtravel spring therein in a compressed state. The apparatus includes a three-jaw lathe-type power chuck fixed to a support frame vertically opposite a power cylinder supported on another portion of the frame. The overtravel spring assembly is placed on a post member, fixed concentrically in the chuck, and held fast by the power cylinder when pressurized. With the spring assembly secured in the apparatus, a plurality of crimping blades carried on the jaws of the chuck are actuated to crimp a first annular end of the spring assembly housing, then removing the spring assembly and turning it over in the apparatus to crimp the other end of the housing, thereby securing the spring assembly in assembled relation.

    摘要: A hand brake for railroad cars comprising a housing including a front casing and a rear or back plate, between which an operating shaft is journaled (that bears the usual vertical hand wheel), and within which is mounted the brake drum in concentric relation to the operating shaft. A ratchet mechanism permits winding of the brake chain in one direction only, and the winding of the brake drum is through a non-rotating but gyrating pinion that meshes with a ring gear that is part of the drum, the pinion being actuated through an eccentric sleeve that is journaled for rotation about the operating shaft. The brake drum is journaled in concentric relation about the operating shaft on bearing plates respectively affixed to the housing front casing and back plate, with the housing back bearing plate having an integral annular flange in which the inner end of the operating shaft is journaled, and on which the eccentric is journaled. The ratchet mechanism is also disposed within the annular flange and is clutched to the shaft through friction clutch cooperation with a nut threaded on the shaft that is splined to a jaw clutch member that cooperates with jaw clutch seats or pockets in the eccentric whereby the operating shaft is releasably keyed to the eccentric to rotate the same for actuating the pinion for chain wind up purposes. The jaw clutch device involved also is operative to establish the friction clutch relationship that the nut has with the ratchet mechanism whereby the tension acting on the brake chain keeps the ratchet mechanism operative to prevent rotation of the shaft in a direction which would unwind the chain.
