Abstract:
A PTO unit for a transmission or the like includes a housing having an interior chamber. A PTO drive shaft, mounted in the housing, includes a first drive connection for connection to an auxiliary device to provide power thereto. The PTO drive shaft includes a second drive connection. A lubricating pump is connected to the second drive connection of the drive shaft to be in driving engagement therewith. A laterally shiftable gear is mounted on the drive shaft between the first and second drive connections. A gear shift mechanism is provided for laterally shifting the shiftable gear between the first and second positions. An idler shaft, spaced from and parallel to the drive shaft, is mounted in the housing, and a cluster gear is provided for rotation on the idler shaft. The cluster gear includes a transmission driven gear and a pinion. The pinion engages the laterally shiftable gear in the first position thereof for driving the PTO shaft, and is disengaged therefrom when the laterally shiftable gear is in the second position. The idler shaft includes a hose for receiving a lubricant from the pump and injecting it into the housing to maintain the PTO unit lubricated only when the pinion is engaged with the laterally shiftable gear.
Abstract:
A disposable, plastic container for the dispensing of liquids, which container comprises: an elongated, flexible collapsible nozzle; a removable top handle having an open area; and a raised sealing nipple on the top exterior surface of the container, whereby, on opening of the container by removal of the handle, the container is resealed by bending the nozzle to form a seal, along a line of collapse of the nozzle the bent nozzle retained in a sealing position by the handle placed about the base of the nozzle, and the outlet of the nozzle placed in a sealing engagement with the sealing nipple on the container to provide a dual seal for the container.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a stamped, extruded finished part includes permanently attaching upper and lower shoes to a moveable ram and a stationary bolster plate of a dedicated stamping press. A replaceable extrusion die sub-assembly is mounted between the upper and lower shoes for extruding a workpiece into a preform. A component die sub-assembly is replaceably attached to the ram and bolster plate of the press for processing the preform into the finished part. The workpiece is progressively extruded then stamped into the finished part. Only the component die sub-assembly and the perishable components of the extrusion die sub-assembly are replaced when a different finished part is ordered.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for forming an outwardly extending tubular portion in a side wall of a workpiece, such as a rocker arm. The method includes the following steps: (1) positioning the workpiece in a punch press having a central shaft with a movable punch mounted in an aperture formed in the central shaft for lateral sliding movement with respect to the shaft; (b) extending the central shaft into the interior cavity of the workpiece; and (c) actuating lateral sliding movement of the movable punch against the side wall of the workpiece to cold form the outwardly extending tubular portion in the side wall.
Abstract:
A weld nut for use in securing a fastener to a sheet of supporting material. The weld nut comprises a triangular-shaped plate with truncated vertices. The plate has a mating surface from which are raised first, second and third integral projections. Each of the integral projections has a frusto-conical body with a rounded top and is surrounded by an annular channel to contain the flow of the material forming the projection when the nut is welded to the supporting material. Each channel preferably intersects an adjacent truncated end to permit the formation of an external fillet.
