Abstract:
A method for handling uncontrolled combustions in an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, the uncontrolled combustions occurring independently of the ignition by a spark plug and being detected in or at the internal combustion engine. To allow a rapid yet reliable reduction of uncontrolled combustions in an internal combustion engine in order to protect the internal combustion engine from damage, the number of detected uncontrolled combustions in a monitoring period is determined and compared to a threshold value. A temperature in a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine is dropped if the threshold value is exceeded.
Abstract:
In a method for operating an injection valve, in particular a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, one component of the injection valve, particularly a valve needle, is disposed in a manner allowing movement relative to other components of the injection valve, and preferably is able to be driven at least partially by an actuator. A structure-borne-noise signal is detected by a structure-borne-noise sensor, and the structure-borne-noise signal is evaluated in order to infer an operating state of the movably disposed component.
Abstract:
A device and a method for processing data, in particular measuring data of a knock sensor of an internal combustion engine, are provided, the data being obtained by sampling an analog signal. The sampled values are combined to form data blocks and then processed as data block by a computing device.
Abstract:
The method for knock detection includes establishing that knock is occurring in the internal combustion engine when the amplified knock signal exceeds a predetermined reference level in a predetermined manner. The reference level is determined on the basis of individual cylinders and the increase in the reference level is limited when a new reference level leaves a predetermined reference level range or the gradient of the sound increase exceeds a predetermined threshold value. For determination of the reference level range and/or the threshold for the gradient average values of the signals originating from the sound of other cylinders are considered.
Abstract:
A method for controlling knocking in multi-cylinder internal combustion engines in KC emergency operation and at activated guide-cylinder function are provided by which a torque loss is able to be avoided at low application expenditure and the functionality desired by the guide-cylinder function is maintained even in KC emergency operation. In KC emergency operation and when the guide-cylinder function is activated, cylinder pairs are formed from the cylinders operating in each case at a 360° offset. Each twin pair having at least one cylinder to be guided is assigned at least one of the available guide cylinders, so that the ignition timing retard of the cylinder pair to be guided is based on the ignition timing retard of the associated guide cylinder. Only when the number of available guide cylinders is insufficient will a safety retard timing be triggered, in which an ignition angle is adjusted which has been predefined for all cylinders.
Abstract:
A method for monitoring and error detection in a device for knock detection is disclosed, in which two different diagnosis functions can be carried out in an alternating fashion. If one of the diagnosis functions gives rise to the suspicion of an error or an error correction, this diagnosis function is carried out again in order to confirm the suspicion before the other diagnosis function is carried out, wherein the renewed diagnosis is carried out at a shorter interval than usual.
Abstract:
Method of knock control in multicylinder internal combustion engines, with one knock sensor being provided for a group of cylinders, and with a control unit determining and outputting the control quantities for the ignition of the individual cylinders on a selective basis for the cylinders. At least one cylinder, preferably the cylinder(s) sensed best by the knock sensor, is/are selected as the lead cylinder. A knocking event in a lead cylinder causes a retard in the firing for all cylinders of the group, while a knocking event in one of the other cylinders causes a retard in only this one cylinder.
Abstract:
A process for controlling knocking of an internal combustion engine comprises the steps of retarding an ignition angle when a cylinder knocks, resetting the ignition angle by adjusting in the direction of "advance", storing prevailing ignition angle retardation values in an adaptation characteristic diagram which, depending on a size of operating parameters of the internal combustion engine, has subdivided ranges, with one value of an ignition angle retardation determined during operation in an appropriate range and particularly on leaving this range, always being stored, setting the value of the ignition angle retardation as stored for a particular range on changing into this range, and on changing the range, resetting the ignition angle with increased advance adjustment speed until knocking occurs in this range or until a predetermined value of the ignition angle is reached.
Abstract:
The invention deals with a method to determine the fuel composition of a fuel mixture from a first fuel and a second fuel for the operation of an internal combustion engine, wherein the first and the second fuel have different octane numbers and wherein the internal combustion engine has at least one knock sensor and a closed-loop knock control. Provision is made according to the invention for the composition of the fuel mixture to be determined by means of an output signal of the knock sensor. Provision is made in many cases for the knock sensor to already be in the internal combustion engine, so that it does not present any additional expenditure of money or effort. Because the octane number of the fuel mixture is determined by the mixing ratio of the fuels involved, which have different octane numbers, in retrospect the composition of the fuel mixture can be suggested from the signal of the knock sensor under suitable operating conditions.

An arrangement for comparison is provided, which implements the assignment of the knock sensors to the cylinders by comparing at least two characteristic acoustic signals.
