    摘要: A method for driving a plasma display panel including a plurality of discharge cells each having a scan electrode and a sustain electrode. One field includes a plurality of subfields each having an address period for generating address discharge in a discharge cell, and a sustain period for alternately applying a sustain pulse to the scan electrode and the sustain electrode to generate sustain discharge in the discharge cell in which the address discharge has been generated. The sustain pulse includes a first sustain pulse rising gently and a second sustain pulse rising more steeply than the first sustain pulse. At least one of the sustain pulses applied secondly and thirdly to the scan electrode is the second sustain pulse, and at least one of the sustain pulses applied secondly and thirdly to the sustain electrode is the second sustain pulse.

Provided are at least three driving modes having different sub-field structures: a low-temperature driving mode, an ordinary-temperature driving mode, and a high-temperature driving mode. To drive the panel, estimates of the highest temperature and the lowest temperature the panel can have are made from the temperature detected by the thermal sensor, the temperature condition of the panel is determined from the estimated highest temperature or lowest temperature, and the driving mode is switched appropriately for the panel temperature condition.

    摘要: In a method of driving an AC plasma display panel of the present invention, one field period is made of a plurality of sub-fields (SFs), each including an initializing period, writing period, and sustaining period, and a part of sustaining operation in the sustaining period in at least one of the plurality of SFs and a part of selective initializing operation in the initializing period in a SF following the at least one SF are performed at the same time. The method comprises making a pulse width of a top sustain pulse in one of the sustaining periods in the plurality of SFs different from that in another of the sustaining periods therein. This method limits the SFs in which any erroneous discharge occurs to lower order of SFs and can inhibit the brightness of the erroneous discharge.

    摘要: The present invention provides a method of driving a plasma display panel that displays an image with high brightness, high contrast, and high display quality by stabilizing selective initializing operation. To realize it, a plurality of subfields each having a setup period, an address period, and a sustain period are provided in one field period. Retention time for retaining voltages to be applied to a scan electrode and a sustain electrode is provided between time when voltage for weakening the final sustain discharge in the sustain period is applied to the sustain electrode and time when a ramp waveform voltage which decreases is applied to the scan electrode in the setup period in the following subfield. The retention time is controlled based on average brightness of image signals or ambient temperature.
