Abstract: A repositionable abrasive disc mounting assembly comprises a backup pad and a clamp assembly. The backup pad has a rotational axis of use and a major surface with projections extending outwardly therefrom. The backup pad further comprises an inwardly facing centrally disposed first fastening member, and also an outwardly facing centrally disposed second fastening member. The clamp assembly comprises inner and outer clamp members for securing an abrasive disc. The inner clamp member comprises an inwardly facing centrally disposed third fastening member adapted to repositionably engage the second fastening member in a discrete number of rotational orientations. The inner clamp member further comprises an outwardly facing centrally disposed fourth fastening member. The outer clamp member comprises an inwardly facing centrally disposed fifth fastening member adapted to securely engage the fourth fastening member. A method of abrading a workpiece using the repositionable abrasive disc is also disclosed.

Abstract: A wiping system for a robotic repair unit is presented that includes a motive robot arm with a motor, a connection mechanism coupled to the motive robot arm, and a wiping medium coupled to the connection mechanism. The wiping medium includes a base layer and a plurality of features extending from the base layer. The motive robot arm, powered by the motor, moves the wiping medium. The motive robot arm is configured to move the wiping medium toward, or away from, a worksurface. The motive arm is configured to press the wiping medium toward the worksurface during a wiping operation. During the wiping operation, the wiping medium is driven by a wiping motor against the surface.

Abstract: A shaped abrasive particle is presented. The shaped abrasive particle has a first and second surface. The first and second surfaces are substantially parallel to each other and separated by a thickness. Each of the first and second surfaces have a surface profile, which includes a plurality of corners and a plurality of edges connecting the plurality of corners. The shaped abrasive particle also includes a recess included wholly within one of the plurality of edges, wherein the recess is a concave void extending into the surface profile. The shaped abrasive particle also includes a magnetically responsive coating. The magnetically responsive coating causes the shaped abrasive particle to be responsive to a magnetic field. The shaped abrasive particle, when exposed to the magnetic field, experiences a net torque that causes the shaped abrasive particle to orient with respect to the magnetic field such that each of the first and second surfaces are substantially perpendicular to a backing.

Abstract: A method for repositioning an abrasive disc within a repositionable abrasive disc mounting assembly is presented. The method includes mounting the abrasive disc to a repositionable abrasive disc mounting assembly in a first position. The mounting disc assembly includes the abrasive disc coupled to the back-up pad assembly such that the abrasive disc is in contact with a pressure feature of the back-up pad assembly, a drive shaft of a grinding tool, and a fastener that maintains the position of the abrasive disc and the back-up pad coupled to the drive shaft. The method also includes conducting an abrasive operation by activating the grinding tool. The method also includes re-positioning the abrasive disc, with respect to the repositionable abrasive disc mounting assembly, in a second position. The first position includes the abrasive disc in a first position relative to the pressure feature. The second position includes the abrasive disc in a second position relative to the pressure feature assembly. Re-positioning includes an adjustment between the first and second position while the abrasive disc is still positioned on the drive shaft between the fastener and the back-up pad assembly.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a shaped abrasive particle is disclosed. The method includes filling a cavity of a tool with an abrasive particle precursor material. The cavity has at least an interior surface that extends downward from a tool top surface at an angle. The method also includes leveling the abrasive particle precursor material such that a top surface of the abrasive particle precursor materials is flush with the tool surface, such that a sharp portion is formed along the intersection between the sloped wall of the tool cavity and the tool surface and the sharp portion is within the same plane as the tool surface. The method also includes removing a dried abrasive particle precursor from the cavity of the tool. The abrasive particle has a sharp portion formed along the intersection between the interior surface and the tool surface.
