Abstract: A stimulus-responsive micellar carrier, methods that may be associated with making a stimulus-responsive micellar carrier, and methods that may be associated with using a stimulus-responsive micellar carrier are disclosed. The stimulus-responsive micellar carrier comprises a cargo molecule, and a linear block copolymer having a hydrophilic block connected to a hydrophobic block by a stimulus-responsive junction moiety. The micellar carrier can be supplied to a patient body for therapeutic purposes, such as the treatment of cancerous tissue. A method of preparing or obtaining a stimulus-responsive micellar carrier may include preparing a polyethylene glycol material having an acetal end group and then preparing a block copolymer by forming a reaction mixture including the polyethylene glycol material, a cyclic carbonate monomer, and a base.

Abstract: Described herein is a hydrogel comprising a peptide and gelatin. The peptide comprises a sequence having at least 8 amino acids with alternating hydrophobic amino acids (X) and hydrophilic amino acids (Y), wherein each hydrophobic amino acid is independently selected from isoleucine (I), valine (V) and leucine (L), each hydrophilic amino acid is independently selected from arginine (R), lysine (K), glutamic acid (E), and aspartic acid (D), wherein the hydrophilic amino acids are selected such that there is at least one arginine and at least one lysine. A kit and method for preparing the hydrogel is described as well. The hydrogel may be used to culture cells and determine an effect of a compound on a cell cultured in the hydrogel.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to functionalised polypeptides, nanoparticles and their 5 uses thereof. The functionalised polypeptide comprises polylysine functionalised with guanidinium moieties, wherein the polypeptide is about 50% to about 98% functionalised. The number of guanidinium functionalised lysine monomeric units is 5 to 100, and the number of lysine monomeric units is 1 to 50. The functionalised polypeptides and nanoparticles can be used for treating a microbial infection or for 10 treating cancer.

Abstract: There is provided a bone cement composition comprising: a powder component comprising at least one acrylic polymer a liquid component comprising a monomer; an antibiotic; and an acid-functionalised polymer, wherein reaction of the powder component and the liquid component results in formation of a bone cement. In a preferred embodiment, the acid-functionalised polymer is selected from polyethylene glycol-polycarbonate (PEG-PAC), polycarbonate-poly(L-lactide) (PAC-PLLA), polycarbonate-poly(D-lactide) (PAC-PDLA), PAC-PLLA/PDLA, copolymers thereof or a combination thereof. There is also provided a bone cement formed from the bone cement composition.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to polythioaminals with applications as carriers or delivery vehicles for therapeutic agents or other small molecule cargo. Polythioaminal block copolymer coupled to a therapeutic agent is a polymer-therapeutic conjugate that exhibits higher stability and longer life time in aqueous environments. The polythioaminal block copolymer coupled to a therapeutic agent can be synthesized by reacting hexahydrotriazines with a hydrophobic block precursor, a hydrophilic block precursor, a particle stabilizing segment precursor, and a cargo, such as a therapeutic agent, in a one pot synthesis. The ease of synthesizing the resulting polythioaminal block copolymer coupled to the therapeutic agent while offering the extended stability and polymer life time in aqueous environments make the polythioaminal block copolymer particularly attractive for therapeutic carriers.
