    Abstract: APPARATUS FOR DEVELOPING SHEET MATERIAL CARRYING A RECORDING LAYER WHICH IS IRREVERSIBLY IMAGEWISE DIFFERENTIATED IN TERMS OF SOLVENT SOLUBILITY IN WHICH THE SHEET MATERIAL IS APPLIED TO A WETTED ENDLESS BELT AND IS DELIVERED THEREBY INTO FRICTIONAL RUBBING CONTACT WITH A ROTATABLE RUBBING DRUM HAVING A RESILIENT POROUS PERIPHERAL SURFACE. THE RUBBING DRUM IS WETTED WITH THE SOLVENT WHILE MAKING CONTACT WITH THE SHEET MATERIAL, AND THE PERIPHERAL SPEED OF THE DRUM IS PREFERABLY SUBSTANTIALLY HIGHER, SAY AT LEAST TEN TIMES HIGHER, THAN THE TRANSPORT SPEED OF THE SHEET MATERIAL ON THE BELT. SURPLUS SOLVENT CAN BE CAUGHT BETWEEN A TRAY ARRANGED BENEATH THE RUBBING DRUM AND THROUGH WHICH THE LOWER STRETCH OF THE ENDLESS BELT PASSES. ALL OF THE OPERATIVE COMPONENTS CAN BE ARRANGED WITHIN A HOUSING AN INLET AND OUTLET OPENINGS THEREIN FOR THE INGRESS AND EGRESS OF THE SHEET MATERIAL.

    Abstract: A processing apparatus for quickly obtaining, according to the silver complex diffusion transfer process, radiographic images of surgical interventions. The apparatus comprises separately driven pairs of inlet rollers for introducing an image-receiving sheet and a radiation-sensitive sheet in the processing liquid. The image-receiving sheet follows the upper path in the processing liquid and leads the radiation-sensitive sheet which follows the lower path. Edge guides which are curved in the longitudinal direction and which converge towards each other in the transport direction of the sheets support the sheets in the processing liquid. A longitudinally curved guide plate is provided under the lower sheet path and has a plurality of openings through which processing liquid is pumped so as to cushion the sheet which follows said lower path. The driving of the inlet roller pairs is accomplished through control apparatus which creates a relative delay in the advance thereby of the image-receiving sheet in order that the leading edge of the radiation sensitive sheet may trail the same by a short distance.

AT LEAST ONE RUBBING MEMBER HAS A SURFACE OF POROUS RESILIENT MATERIAL FOR CONTACTING SAID RECORDING LAYER.

    Abstract: Processing apparatus for the rapid processing of film, which comprises a tank, an open-ended processing chamber which is composed of two symmetrical sections, which defines a substantially horizontal path for the material to be processed and which is located above the level of the liquid in the tank, an transport roller pair at the entry and at the outlet opening of said chamber, and means for directing streams of processing liquid towards the plane of said path in the processing chamber. The exposing of the liquid to which emerges from the inlet and outlet opening of the chamber is reduced by receiving said liquid in narrow vertical channels which dip in the body of liquid in the processing tank.

    Abstract: A feeding device for lengthy webs such as photographic strip film and the like wherein spiral ribs define a spiral path having a substantial number of convolutions therethrough which the web is to be fed. A plurality of driving rollers are arranged in angularly spaced location around the spiral path on each of its sides with the roller peripheries intruding through the rib convolutions so as to engage the extreme marginal edges of the web to advance the web as the rollers are rotated. The rollers are preferably arranged on the sides of the ribs in cooperating pairs with the clearance between the peripheries of such pairs being slightly less than the transverse width of the web. Each of the rollers is formed on its periphery with successive frustoconical steps to give a sawtooth profile with the axial length of each step corresponding to the spacing between the ribs, with one step being provided for each convolution of the spiral. The larger diameter of each step is located nearer the center of the spiral so that an increase in tension in the web within any given convolution draws the web towards the larger diameter and thus increases the feeding rate of the web to thereby automatically compensate for tension variations. The rollers are arranged so that their axes of rotation intersect at least one of the spiral convolutions and preferably all of them at an angle extending generally normal to a line drawn tangentially to the spiral at the point of intersection of the corresponding roller axis therewith. The device can be enclosed within a housing which can be arranged to contact the web with a fluid processing medium, for example for photographic development. The device is also useful for storage in the handling of an endless web.
