    Abstract: Large sized electronic displays may include a backlight that generates light to illuminate a display panel. The backlight is divided into tiles that each includes a set of backlight elements that are driven by respective tile driver circuitry. Based on receiving brightness data and/or control signals from a backlight controller (BCON) of the backlight, the respective tile driver circuitry drives corresponding backlight elements such that the backlight elements suitably illuminate the display panel.

    Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to control circuitry for light-emitting diodes. The control circuitry may include feedforward control and a feedback control for a power supply for the light-emitting diodes. The feedforward control may include host circuitry for the device that determines a maximum zone current, a maximum row current, and the maximum row-to-row current step for an upcoming backlight frame while a current backlight frame is being executed. A headroom voltage for the upcoming backlight frame is determined based on the maximum zone current, the maximum row current, and/or the maximum row-to-row current step and provided to the power supply so that the power supply can settle at a corresponding supply voltage before the upcoming backlight frame is executed. The feedback control utilizes dynamic thresholds determined for each backlight frame to fine tune the feedforward-determined headroom voltage.

    Abstract: A power management integrated circuit (PMIC) of an electronic display may include image data reference voltage adjustment circuitry, a negative supply voltage generator that may generate a negative supply voltage with multiple negative supply voltages, and/or a dedicated timing controller. The image data reference voltage adjustment circuitry may tune image data reference voltages for generating programming voltages based on receiving an indication of an undesired direct current (DC) voltage offset, an undesired alternating current (AC) noise, or both. The image data reference voltage adjustment circuitry may receive the indication from a display panel of the electronic display. The negative supply voltage generator may elevate a voltage of the negative supply voltage to reduce a power consumption of the electronic display. The dedicated timing controller may improve (e.g., reduce length of) a frequency range of one or more switched voltages of the PMIC to reduce front of screen artifacts.

The array includes a plurality of subarrays of the light-emitting diodes. At least one driver circuit is coupled to the array of light-emitting diodes. The at least one driver circuit is configured to generate an adaptive pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal to control at least one subarray of the plurality of subarrays of the light-emitting diodes. The adaptive PWM signal is designed with each pulse of a group having a pulse width W, each pulse width being reduced until reaching a threshold pulse width, and one pulse being removed from the group of pulses.

A first discharge switch selectively couples a first voltage level to the common anode of the first array of LEDs to discharge the common anode to prevent an undesired current path through the first array of LEDs and associated undesired illumination.
