摘要: A multi-level system for management of a railway system and its operational components in which the railway system has a first level configured to optimize an operation within the first level that includes first level operational parameters which define operational characteristics and data of the first level, and a second level configured to optimize an operation within the second level that includes second level operational parameters which define the operational characteristic and data of the second level. The first level provides the second level with the first level operational parameters, and the second level provides the first level with the second level operational parameters, such that optimizing the operation within the first level and optimizing the operation within the second level are each a function of optimizing a system optimization parameter. The levels can include a railroad infrastructure level, a track network level, a train level, a consist level and a locomotive level.

摘要: Method and system for determining a reference speed indicative of true ground speed of a vehicle having a plurality of axles are provided. The reference speed for a designated one of the axles is dynamically adjusted to account for changes in vehicular acceleration that may occur while determination of the reference speed is being performed. The method allows collecting a stream of samples over respective sampling intervals of at least one motion-indication parameter corresponding to a respective axle of the vehicle. In one aspect thereof, one may use a torque reduction rulebase configured to avoid high torque reduction, and inaccuracies in the motion-indication parameter due to high levels of creep, if any, in a wheel of the respective axle. The method further allows estimating an inertia value for the vehicle based on respective changes in tractive effort and acceleration over each sampling interval. The collected motion parameter samples may be adjusted for changes in acceleration over each sampling interval using the estimated inertial value. A signal indicative of axle speed may be limited to at least one respective limit value of rate and magnitude based on the inertially-adjusted parameter samples to, for example, provide accurate slip control.

摘要: An alternating current (AC) motor system includes an AC motor having a rotor and a stator with the rotor having a plurality of air passes for passing cooling air and the stator having end windings extending from each end. An air deflector is coupled to one end of the rotor and has a generally curved configuration for directing cooling air exiting the air passages into a generally radial flow direction and onto the stator end windings. The stator end windings comprise turns of a plurality of electrical conductors forming the stator winding circuits which are wound to form a plurality of phase windings. Controllable switches are connected to the winding circuits for coupling the phase windings into either a parallel or series circuit arrangement. The system is responsive to motor speed and operating state for selectively switching the windings between the series and parallel electrical circuit arrangements. Resistors are coupled in series electrical circuit with each of the electrical phase windings and controllable switches are coupled in parallel with the resistors for selectively bypassing phase current around the resistors.

摘要: An improved electrical circuit configuration for a chopper circuit is disclosed which is particularly adapted for use with an inductive load such as a braking resistor of the type used in many rapid transit vehicles. Instead of connecting a di/dt reactor directly in series with the electronic switch of the chopper circuit, a di/dt reactor is connected in series with the freewheeling diode. Using this configuration, the di/dt reactor does not have to continuously handle the average current through the electronic switch during the entire chopping operation. Hence, a much smaller, lighter, and less expensive di/dt reactor can be utilized.

摘要: A propulsion system for a relatively large land-based vehicle, such as a locomotive or off-highway vehicle, is provided. The system may include a brushless dynamoelectric machine made up of a main alternator having a main rotor and a main stator, and an auxiliary alternator having an auxiliary rotor and an auxiliary stator, wherein the main rotor and the auxiliary rotor are disposed on a shaft for joint rotation with the shaft. The dynamoelectric machine is operable in a power generating mode, and in an engine cranking mode. A power source may be connected to pass current to one or more windings in the auxiliary stator to induce an alternating current flow in one or more windings in the auxiliary rotor. A rectifier may be connected to receive the alternating current flow from the one or more windings in the auxiliary rotor. The rectifier is further connected to supply a rectified current to one or more windings in the main rotor to induce an alternating current flow in one or more windings in the main stator of the machine, wherein the alternating current flow in the one or more windings in the main stator of the machine constitutes the current generated by the dynamoelectric machine during the power generating mode. The power source to be connected during the engine cranking mode may be first and second inverters connected to provide an AC conversion to a DC input from an energy storage device to supply a respective alternating current having some desired characteristics. The one inverter may be connected to the one or more windings in the main stator, and the other inverter may be connected to the one or more windings in the auxiliary stator to produce a torque in the main rotor of the machine. The torque produced at the main rotor of the machine is mechanically coupled to a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine of the propulsion system to start the engine during the engine cranking mode.

摘要: A system and method for assessing a health and functionality of a locomotive friction modifying system wherein the locomotive has a friction modifying applicator associated with a wheel of the locomotive for applying a friction modifying agent to a rail on which the wheel is traversing. The system and method comprise a sensor detecting a predetermined operational condition of the locomotive. The system and method also comprise a controller associated with the sensor and responsive to input from the sensor determining a per unit creep of an axle of the locomotive. The controller also determines a tractive effort of the axle of the locomotive and determines a friction modifying applicator state for the applicator associated with the axle. The controller further compares the determined per unit creep of the axle, the tractive effort of the axle and the state of the friction modifying applicator associated with the axle to a predetermined value indicative of the health and functionality of the locomotive friction modifying system. The controller provides an indication of the health and functionality of the locomotive friction modifying system.
