A substance of the base particles providing an intended function and an intended color are selected; a spectral intensity curve and values in CIELAB color system of the intended color are measured; and with substances capable of being used as the coated layers and refractive indexes thereof being included in factors, substances and thicknesses of the coated layers and an order of formation of the layers are obtained that provide optically coherent multilayered film-coated powder having such values in CIELAB color system that minimizes a color difference and makes a hue ratio proximate to 1, by solving numerical solutions of the recurring formula for film multiple coherence.

A highly functional film-coated powder which is produced without using the method based on the hydrolysis of a metal alkoxide and without using a metal alkoxide, which is an expensive compound, or a highly flammable organic solvent and which therefore can be obtained at a low overall product cost without necessitating explosion-proof facilities in the production equipment and while attaining easy temperature and humidity regulation; and a process for producing the same. The film-coated powder comprises a base particle having films on the surface thereof, wherein at least one of the films is formed by reaction of a metal salt in an aqueous solvent having a constant pH. By the technique, the surface of base particle can be evenly coated with a solid phase film while inhibiting particle aggregation without precipitating an independent solid phase in the liquid phase.

In producing a multilayer-coated powder by coating the surface of a base powder of a metal, metal oxide, etc. with two or more layers of a metal oxide or the like, the films of a metal oxide or the like are formed through decomposition, etc. from a metal salt as an inexpensive material. This is attained by making the powder particles not to be attacked by acids, etc. when the metal salt decomposition or the like, which yields an acid, etc., is conducted. The multilayer-coated powder is characterized in that the multilayered film comprises at least one layer consisting of a metal hydroxide or metal oxide film formed by the hydrolysis of a metal alkoxide and, as a layer disposed on the outer side of that layer, a coating film consisting of a metal hydroxide or metal oxide film formed by a reaction, e.g., neutralization or pyrolysis, of a metal salt. Upon heating, the metal hydroxide or metal oxide film formed by the hydrolysis of a metal alkoxide becomes a dense metal oxide film.

And a genuine/counterfeit discrimination device comprising at least two devices selected from a device for identifying an electric field pattern, a device for identifying a magnetic pattern, a device for identifying an electron beam responsive pattern, a device for identifying a visible-light pattern, a device for identifying an ultraviolet-light pattern, and a device for identifying an infrared-light pattern and further comprising a device for comparing and identifying patterns obtained with these identification devices.
