摘要： An apparatus for assembling and disassembling threadably engageable members, which comprises: (a) wrenching means and (b) an integral securing means and torque limiter assembly; said assembly comprising, in combination, securing means operatively associated with a pinion block pivotally mounted on a solid base, said pinion block having a surface which bears against biasing means connected to force means, preferably a compression spring, which provides a predetermined amount of torquing when a first member is held in said securing means and a second member is turned relative thereto by said wrenching means, whereby the amount of torquing is limited by the pivotal movement of said pinion block.

摘要： An ultrasonic surgical aspirator having an improved irrigation/aspiration manifold and components to facilitate quick connections of the irrigation and aspiration lines to a handpiece. In combination with a handle assembly having an ultrasonic vibrator for vibrating an ultrasonic tip and a nosecone, a nosecone extension defining a rotating joint for connection to the nosecone in an articulating joint for connection to a rigid or flexible flue is provided. The nosecone extension further defines an irrigation cowl having an irrigation port for receiving an irrigation connector for connecting the irrigation fluid to the nosecone extension for passage of irrigation fluid through the nosecone extension and a flue about the surgical tip. An aspiration tubulation connector adapted to securely fit a slot through the nosecone and nosecone extension connects an aspiration port on the tip to the aspiration tube for connection to a pump into a discard area. An alternative manifold assembly includes a nosecone extension adapter defining a rotating joint for connection to the nosecone in a cylindrical portion for connection to an extender sheath, the opposite end of which is connected to a flue adapter defining an articulating joint for connection to a flue. Such an alternative manifold assembly is particularly adapted for use in elongated and curved tips with extenders. The detailed structure of the aspiration tubular connector and the irrigation connector is also shown.

摘要： An apparatus having a vibratable tip for ultrasonically disintegrating tissue in a surgical procedure and for aspirating the disintegrated tissue and fluids away from the surgical site through an opening in the tip. A connection to an electrosurgical unit provides for delivery of RF cutting current, RF coagulating current or a blend thereof to the tip so that electrosurgical procedures can be conducted separately or simultaneously with ultrasonic aspiration through the tip. It thus is now possible, for example, to electrocauterize simultaneously with ultrasonic fragmentation with a single handheld surgical device. The simultaneous delivery of ultrasonic vibrations and RF current to the tip also has been found to increase the tissue fragmentation rate.

摘要： An actuator for a self-adjusting pump head assembly has a variable position pump shoe slidably attached to a base. The assembly pumps liquids through a tube in a peristaltic pump, including a translator of rotational motion into linear motion and a crank for automatically compensating for the manufacturing tolerances of the tube in the pump pivotally attached to the translator and the shoe. The crank for automatically compensating has a linkage or pair of links, carrying a helical compression spring, pivotally anchored to the translator and the shoe. The peristaltic pump includes a self-adjusting pump head, including a variable position pump shoe slidably attached to a base and a control for positioning, locking and applying a continuous reaction force on the shoe to compress the tube between the shoe and at least one roller located on the periphery of a mandrel. Thus the control further has the translator of rotational motion into linear motion, and the crank for automatically compensating for the manufacturing tolerances of the tube introduced into the pump, pivotally attached to the translator and the shoe. Alternatively the pump has a disposable manifold safety cartridge, removably attached to the base, to which ends of the tube attach. The cartridge has an asymmetrical tie bar keyed onto the base to insure that the cartridge is oriented in an acceptable manner and that the tube will be properly installed on the pump.

摘要： An apparatus and method for distracting, in a given direction, and supporting two tissue surfaces is provided. A plurality of wafers are consecutively inserted using a wafer insertion apparatus between the two tissue surfaces to create a column of wafers. A detachable wafer assembly is provided that includes a base wafer initially associated with a track assembly of a wafer insertion apparatus. The base wafer is dislodged from the track assembly so that the base wafer is left within the distraction site as the track assembly is removed. A top cap wafer is provided that is situated at the top of the wafer stack, in which the top cap wafer is larger than the remaining wafers to form a gap surrounding the stack to receive biologic material.
