    Abstract: Particular embodiments disclosed herein provide an apparatus and corresponding methods for guiding ophthalmic surgery and enabling a surgeon to switch, after initiating surgery, between a primary treatment plan and one or more backup plans. Switching between a first plan and a second plan may be performed while omitting presentation of steps of the second plan compatible with implemented steps of the first plan. A treatment plan may include guides imposed on a live video of an eye of the patient that has been registered with respect to a pre-operative image. When switching between plans, initiating registration with respect to the pre-operative image is omitted. A treatment plan may define steps for placement of an IOL such as incision, rhexis, LRI, crystalline lens removal, placement of an IOL, alignment of a toric IOL, and post-operative data collection. Upon switching between first and second, previously implemented compatible steps are omitted from presentation of the second plan.

    Abstract: In certain embodiments, a system for tracking movement of an eye comprises a camera system, a computer system, and an output device. The camera system generates images of the eye. The computer system stores the images and at least one of the images as a reference image. The computer system also tracks movement of the eye within a tracking range by comparing a current image with the reference image, and by determining a movement of the eye from the comparison of the current image and the reference image. The tracking range has one or more alert points. The computer system also determines an orientation of the eye relative to at least one alert point of the tracking range. The output device outputs a range indicator that indicates the orientation of the eye relative to the at least one alert point of the tracking range.

    Abstract: Particular embodiments disclosed herein provide an alignment guide for aligning a toric IOL during surgery. An image with a reference axis is obtained, such as from a digital microscope, and processed, such as using an autoencoder, to label alignment marks on the IOL and possibly other features of the IOL. The label is processed, such as using a logistic regression model, to estimate an IOL axis of the IOL intersecting the alignment marks. An output image is generated from the image that has superimposed thereon guides to a surgeon, such as a line representing the IOL axis, a rotation direction indicator, and a number or other representation of a difference between the reference axis and the IOL axis. Tracking of features of the IOL may be performed across multiple images to predict the location of features not represented in a particular image.

    Abstract: In certain embodiments, an ophthalmic surgical system that tracks the movement of an eye includes a laser device, a camera, and a computer. The laser device directs a laser beam towards the eye, and the camera captures images of the eye. The computer includes hardware and software. The hardware identifies objects in the images of the eye and determines whether each object is a candidate object according to one or more filtering criteria. A candidate object represents a candidate pupil image of the pupil of the eye. The hardware informs the software of the candidate objects. The software sorts the candidate objects according to one or more sorting criteria and identifies a candidate object as the pupil image according to the sorted candidate objects. The software tracks the movement of the eye using the pupil image.
