    Abstract: A hold-down for securing first and second support members in a portion of a building to an anchoring device extending from another portion of the building. The hold-down may include a first flange having securement apertures therethrough configured to receive fasteners adapted to secure the first flange to the first support member. A second flange may have securement apertures configured to receive fasteners adapted to secure the second flange to the second support member. A base may connect the first and second flanges and have an aperture sized and positioned to receive the anchoring device therethrough. The first and second flanges may be configured to be loaded substantially exclusively in tension by the anchoring device.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to horizontal, vertical or angularly disposed diaphragms which resist structural forces. Specifically, the present invention relates to an improved mechanical connection between a structural panel and the framing members that support the structural panel forming a diaphragm. The connection includes: a structural panel having a distal side, a proximal side, and a plurality of edge faces; a frame consisting of a plurality of framing members disposed in registration with the proximal side of the structural panel near the edge faces; a plurality of perimeter fasteners connecting the structural panel to the framing members; and clips or perimeter edging members for reducing bending of the perimeter fasteners attached to a substantial number of the perimeter fasteners. The clips or perimeter edging members for reducing bending of the perimeter fasteners act when lateral forces are imposed on the building structure of which the diaphragm is a part.

    Abstract: A snugging connection and method for moving a movable structural member into closer contact with a stationary structural member in which a connector for joining the two structural members is formed with a snugging member which is activated by driving a fastener through an elongated opening in the connector; snagging an end of the snugging member; causing the snugging member to pivotally rotate and move the connector in a direction generally in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the elongated opening. The screw fasteners join truss wood members which are in edge to edge relationship with the screws being driven through the edge of each wood member.     Abstract: A building frame connection including a metal connector for attaching plated wood trusses to wood top plates or mudsills in building structures consisting of a single member constructed from sheet metal including a base member for slidably receiving the bottom edge of the truss, a sail member formed with slotted nail openings and positioned in face to face registration with the side face of the truss, a pair of stabilizer members connected to the sail member, a pair of holding members connected by nails to the stabilizer members and affixed to the wood top plates or mudsills and nails inserted through the slots in the sail member and into the truss member enabling substantial horizontal relative movement of the truss with respect to the top plate but preventing uplift of the truss relative to the top plate.     Abstract: A clip for retaining sheet metal roofing or siding panels on a structure, while providing for thermal expansion and contraction of the panels, is made from a single piece of sheet metal. The metal is cut and bent so as to form a base portion having panel supporting embossments, and an upright portion which has panel retaining bulbous projections adjacent the top edge. Preferably there is an even number of these bulbous projections and they alternate projecting to opposite sides of the upright portion. Most preferably, the clip is made of stainless steel when it is intended for use with aluminum panels. The clip is adapted to have its base portion affixed to a building structure and its upright portion enclosed within the seam joint between two adjacent metal roofing or siding sheets which are formed over the bulbous projections of the clip.
