    Abstract: Technologies directed to embedding a calibration antenna in an antenna structure of a phased array antenna are described. The antenna structure includes a ground plane, a first antenna element, and a second antenna element. The first antenna element and the second antenna element are located in a first plane. The second antenna element is separated from the first antenna element by a first distance. Dielectric material is located between the ground plane and the first plane. The antenna structure further includes a third antenna element that is located in a second plane. The second plane is located between the ground plane and the first plane. The third antenna element is located in an area with a first dimension and a second dimension that are each less than half of the first distance.

    Abstract: Technologies directed to a mechanically steered antenna with improved efficiency are described. One antenna includes a first reflector, a second reflector, and an antenna feed element. The second reflector is located on a reflecting side of the first reflector. The second reflector is offset from the first reflector. The second reflector receives an electromagnetic signal from the antenna feed element and outputs an inverted electromagnetic signal corresponding to the electromagnetic signal. The first reflector receives the inverted electromagnetic signal and outputs a collimated beam corresponding to the inverted electromagnetic signal. The antenna further includes a mechanism coupled to the first reflector. The mechanism rotates the first reflector about a first axis. The first axis is along a direction of the inverted electromagnetic signal.

The first set of antenna elements is located within a perimeter of a first circular area. The second antenna includes a second set of antenna elements. The second set of antenna elements is located within a perimeter of a second circular area. The second circular area partially overlaps the first circular area. The majority of the second set of antenna elements are located outside the perimeter of the first circular area. A majority of the second set of antenna elements are located in the second circular area in the area not overlapped by the first circular area.
