Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to a shaker module for an electronic device. The shaker module may include a movable component that is resiliently suspended in relation to a voice coil by one or more gap-separated pairs of the flat springs. The flat springs reduce the z-height of the shaker module for implementation in, for example, compact electronic devices. The gap-separated pairs of flat springs facilitate adjustment of the resonance frequency of the shaker module substantially independently of adjustments to drop performance, while providing stability against unwanted rocking motions of the movable component.

Speakers within the enclosed environment may be operated to generate the spatially-oriented audio content for the various occupants, with various respective sound stage orientations corresponding to the various different respective directions in which the occupants face.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to electronic devices having speakers. An electronic device may operate the speaker at or near one or more resonance frequencies of the speaker and/or the electronic device. This can allow the electronic device to efficiently eject an occlusion when the speaker is occluded by a fluid or other debris. For example, the electronic device may determine a resonance frequency by obtaining one or more electrical characteristics of an electronic component while the speaker is occluded, determine the resonance frequency based on the obtained electrical characteristic(s), and operate the speaker at a frequency that is based on the resonance frequency to eject the occlusion.

Abstract: Implementations of the subject technology provide a access-feature-mounted external speaker. The access-feature-mounted external speaker may be disposed within an internal cavity in the door, and acoustically coupled to a slot in an edge of the door by an acoustic duct. In a closed position of the door, sound from the access-feature-mounted external speaker may be projected into a gap between the door and a structural interface of an enclosure, and redirected in part by the structural interface to a location external to the enclosure. In an open position of the door, sound from the speaker may be projected into an opening in the enclosure.

A MEMS speaker can include cylindrical corrugated MEMS structure. The cylindrical corrugated MEMS structure may include a contiguous MEMS structure with corrugations that run around an open cylindrical core that is defined, in part, by interior folds of the corrugations. The cylindrical corrugated MEMS structure may be deformed, responsive to an applied voltage, such that a portion of the cylindrical corrugated MEMS structure bends into and/or out of the open cylindrical core to push air out of and/or pull air into the open cylindrical core. In one or more implementations, a MEMS speaker may include an array of cylindrical corrugated MEMS structures.

Abstract: Implementations of the subject technology provide directional acoustic devices such as directional speakers. A directional speaker may include a sound-generating component that projects sound from an acoustic port, and has a rear or interior surface that interfaces with a back volume of the speaker. The directional speaker may also include one or more acoustic ducts coupled to the back volume that direct a negative polarity version of the sound to one or more desired locations in an external environment of the speaker. The negative polarity version of the sound may cancel portions of the sound projected from the acoustic port, at one or more desired locations in the external environment that are determined by the arrangement of the acoustic duct(s).
