    摘要: Tape head positioning apparatus that includes a head carriage frame and a parallel beam positioning structure supported by the head carriage for supporting the magnetic tape head and for variably positioning the magnetic tape head relative to the carriage along a path generally transverse to the tape travel direction. The parallel beam positioning structure includes parallel support beams secured at their ends to the head carriage. The magnetic tape head is secured between the bender beam at a location generally between their ends. In a particular embodiment of the parallel beam positioning apparatus, the parallel support beams comprise first and second resilient reed beams having their ends secured to the head carriage and configured to be deflectable in a direction transverse to the tape travel direction. A voice coil linear motor deflects the reed beams pursuant to a control signal to move the magnetic tape head along the path transverse to the tape travel direction. In a further embodiment of the parallel beam positioning apparatus, the support beams comprise first and second parallel piezoelectric bender beams having their ends secured to the head carriage and configured to deflect in a direction transverse to the tape travel direction in response to a control signal. Deflection of the bender beams pursuant to the control signal displaces the magnetic tape head along the path transverse to the tape travel direction.

    摘要: Apparatus for fine positioning a tape head relative to a head carriage that is coarsely positionable by a lead screw. The fine positioning apparatus includes parallel first and second resilient support beams oriented generally parallel to the direction of tape travel and having their ends fixedly secured to the head carriage so as to be deflectable in a direction transverse to the direction of tape travel. The centers of the parallel first and second support beams have their centers secured to a tape head frame which contains the tape. A linear motor drives the tape head frame against the resilience of the first and second resilient support beams in response to a drive signal which, for example, is derived from tracking error information produced pursuant to reading of servo information on tape. Pursuant to the displacement of the tape head frame against the resilience of the support beams, the magnetic tape head is moved along a linear path transverse to the tape travel direction. For operation with tapes without servo information on tape, a piezoelectric transducer detects the deflection of one of the support beams and provides an output which is utilized to provide damping of the natural resonance the spring/mass system that includes the first and second resilient support beams and the tape head and tape head frame supported thereby. Alternatively, the operation with tapes without servo tracks can be open-loop with the damping being provided by damping members disposed symmetrically on either side of the tape head frame.

The head rotator assembly (22) includes a controller (16) that controls movement of the supporter mover assembly (232) based on a positioning signal. The supporter mover assembly (232) can include a first actuator (234A) that moves a first lever (236A) to rotate the head supporter (230) to move the head (20) in the azimuth direction. The first actuator (234A) biases the first lever (236A) to rotate part of the head supporter (230) to move the head in the azimuth direction.

The first actuator (228) is mounted to the second actuator (230) at a location that is based on a position of a resonance node (680) of the second actuator (230). The controller (26) controls linear positioning of the first actuator (228) and the second actuator (230) relative to the storage tape on a closed-loop basis. The actuators (228, 230) can each include voice coils (246, 260). The second actuator (230) can include two positioner guides (253A, 253B) that are configured in a substantially collinear configuration or in a triangular configuration with the head (16). The first actuator (228) can include an isolation boot (232) that decreases vibration of the first actuator (228) caused by vibration of the second actuator (230). The actuators (228, 230) can have resonance frequencies that are different from one another. The first fundamental resonance frequency can be tuned based on the second resonance frequency to decrease a correlation between the resonances of the actuators (228, 230).

    摘要: A voice coil driven positioner is provided for positioning the magnetic head of a tape drive relative to the tape of a removable tape cartridge. The head positioner includes a low-mass carriage that supports the head on one end and the voice coil on an opposed second end. A low friction guide mechanism guides the carriage along a precision movement path that carries the head across tracks of a supplied multi-track tape and simultaneously carries the voice coil through a flux field generated by a stator. A movable magnet is attached to the carriage and located within the hollow of the voice coil for reciprocating into a hollow passageway of the stator together with reciprocation of the voice coil into another hollow of the stator. A flux detector is attached to the stator and located compactly within the hollow passageway of the stator for detecting the position of the magnet. A programmable lookup table converts measurement signals output by the flux detector into pre-calibrated, head-position indicating signals. A platform is provided on the carriage for mounting an interferometer prism used during calibration.

    摘要: Apparatus for orienting a magnetic tape head and a tape drive assembly has a frame with a support, and a shaft mounted for rotation around its axis on the support. The first end of the shaft is pivotally mounted on the support, while the second end, also mounted on the support, is movable relative thereof. A motor is provided for rotating the shaft. A head carriage assembly with a magnetic tape head is mounted on the shaft and positioned so that the head lies adjacent magnetic tape which is located in the tape drive assembly. The head carriage assembly moves up and down the shaft when the shaft rotates, and thereby causes upward and downward movement of the head. The apparatus includes an adjuster for adjusting the orientation of the shaft and head carriage assembly. Further, a laser source, reflectors and accurate measuring instruments are provided for accurately setting the tape head to facilitate accurate location of a track on a magnetic tape.

    摘要: A photographic assemblage is formed by a plurality of backing strips interconnected by a continuous sealing strip. In each assemblage, the backing strips carry a selected photographic medium, such as a strip of film or a layer of photodeveloping material. The sealing strip is attached to each backing strip at spaced apart points to cover over the photographic medium thereon, and may be peeled therefrom to dispense one of the backing strips. Several embodiments of cassette type magazines for the assemblages are disclosed. Photographic apparatus for use with the assemblages and cassettes is disclosed which is selectively operable to dispense backing strips carrying film one at a time from one assemblage, expose each frame of the film and develop the film by dispensing a backing strip carrying photodeveloper and moving it into aligned contact with the film. The film may be removed from the photograhic apparatus once developed.

A flexible circuit routing is provided that is manageable for half-high form factors by combining the fine positioner loop and course positioner loop into a single loop, and preventing the head flexible printed circuit from contacting a top cover in the routing to a printed circuit board near the top cover.
