Described is a system and method for receiving an electronic mail including an attachment file and separating the attachment file from the electronic mail. The attachment is then sent to a remote source and the attachment file is replaced with a substitute file including identifying data for retrieving the attachment file from the remote source. The electronic mail with the substitute file is then forwarded to a receiver.

摘要:
Method for transmitting high-priority packets in an IP transmission network based upon the Internet Protocol (IP) wherein low-priority packets or fragments of packets are transmitted between a sender and a receiver and at least a high-priority packet can be transmitted from the sender to the receiver by pre-emption of a low-priority packet or a fragment of packet. The method comprises in the sender, the steps of determining whether a low-priority packet or fragment of packet is being transmitted from the sender to the receiver when a high-priority packet has to be transmitted, setting to 1 a reserved bit within the IP header of the high-priority packet used as a pre-emption indicator if a low-priority packet or fragment of packet is currently transmitted, transmitting the high-priority packet with the pre-emption indicator set to 1 from the sender to the receiver, and resuming the transmission of the low-priority packet or fragment of packet at the end of transmission of the high-priority packet.

A method and system for delivering a datagram across multiple inter-network servers. The datagram is delivered from a source device having a first network level protocol to a destination device having a second network level protocol. The inter-network servers transport the datagram in accordance with a transport level protocol while the datagram has a transport priority defined by the first and second network level protocols. The source device delivers the datagram from a source port that designates the transport priority and the destination device receives the datagram at a destination port that also designates the transport priority. In accordance with the method of the present invention, either the source port or said destination port is first identified. The transport priority of said datagram is identified utilizing the transport priority designation of the identified source port or destination port. A current server capacity of each of the inter-network servers is determined. A server eligibility for each of the inter-network servers is determined in accordance with the determined current server capacity and the determined transport priority. Finally, the datagram is dispatched to one of the inter-network servers in accordance with the determined server eligibility.

The present invention relates to dynamic Client configuration and more particularly to a system and a method for automatically configuring a Client to access each desired SNA Application through an appropriate Server. A configuration feature (also called Automatic Server Configuration option) in a Client automatically retrieves a configuration code (also called Autoserver code, in order to configure the Client to access desired SNA Applications through appropriate Servers. A CGI (Common Gateway Interface, program on an Autoserver URL (Universal Resource Locator) system dynamically creates an Autoserver code (also called TN client configuration code). The Autoserver code is used by the Client to associate to each desired SNA Application an appropriate Server. The automatic configuration of the Client allows the user to directly access an SNA Application without having first to connect to an Intermediate Selection Application and Selection Screen.

A method and system for establishing a Systems Network Architecture (SNA) session between SNA resources through a packet/cell switching network. The packet/cell switching network includes an origin access node that provides client access services, and at least one destination access node that provides server access services. In accordance with the method of the present invention a SNA session request is received from a source SNA resource for establishing an SNA session with a target SNA resource. An undirected message is broadcast over the packet/cell switching network to identify the destination access nodes that support the source SNA resource and that provide server access services. One or more positive replies are received from respectively one or more of the destination access nodes that support the source SNA resource and that provide server access services. As part of the receiving step, information relating to a traffic handling capacity of the destination access node and information related to establishment of a connection between the origin access node and the destination access node is retrieved. Finally, a destination access node is selected in accordance with the information describing the destination node and in accordance with the information related to establishment of a connection between the origin access node and the destination node.

A method and system for centralizing the LU definitions for one or a plurality of TN3270 servers. More particularly, a method and system for dynamically providing a Systems Network Architecture (SNA) Logical Unit (LU) definition for the establishment of a SNA session between a SNA client and a SNA application. The method of the present invention includes receiving a SNA session request from a telnet 3270 client, and in response thereto, retrieving a definition of a SNA LU from a table shared by one or more telnet 3270 servers. A local table within the telnet 3270 server is dynamically updating with the retrieved SNA LU definition.

An access device for establishing a Systems Network Architecture (SNA) session between an SNA Client and an SNA application using Telnet 3270 services over a communication network. The communication network, has Telnet 3270 servers for accessing the SNA application. The access device comprises logic for: (1) receiving from a Telnet 3270 client, a request for establishing a Telnet 3270 session with a Telnet 3270 Server, the request comprising an identification of the SNA client associated with the Telnet 3270 client, (2) selecting a communication path within the communication network to access a Telnet 3270 server providing services to the SNA client by referring to a configuration table, which comprising, for each SNA client, one or more communication paths leading to one or more Telnet 3270 servers, and (3) forwarding the Telnet 3270 session request to a selected Telnet 3270 server along the selected communication path.

The present invention relates to the transmission of Systems Network Architecture (SNA) information through the Internet Protocol (IP) network, and more particularly to a method and system for an SNA application user to locally select a target application at its current location and to launch a preferred (or the more appropriate) Telnet 3270 Client to access this target application in a one-step process.
