    Abstract: Process for making a particulate (oxy)hydroxide of TM wherein TM comprises nickel and where-in said process comprises the steps of: (a) Providing an aqueous solution (α) containing water-soluble salts of Ni and of at least one transition metal selected from Co and Mn, and, optionally, at least one further metal sel-ected from Ti, Zr, Mo, W, Al, Mg, Nb, and Ta, and an aqueous solution (β) containing an alkali metal hydroxide and, optionally, an aqueous solution (γ) containing ammonia, (b) combining a solution (α) and a solution (β) and, if applicable, a solution (γ) at a pH value in the range of from 12.0 to 13.0 in a stirred tank reactor, thereby creating solid particles of a hydroxide containing nickel, said solid particles being slurried, (c) transferring said slurry into another stirred tank reactor and combining it with a solution (α) and a solution (β) and, if applicable, a solution (γ) at a pH value in the range of from 11.0 to 12.7 and at conditions wherein the solubility of nickel is higher than in step (b), wherein the stirring speed is reduced in the course of step (c).

    Abstract: Cathode active material in particulate form with a mean particle diameter in the range from 2 to 16 µm (D50), wherein the cathode active material has the composition Li1+xTM1-xO2 wherein x is in the range of from 0.1 to 0.2 and TM is a combination of elements according to general formula (I), (NiaCobMnc)1-d-eM1dM2e where the variables are each defined as follows: a is in the range from 0.20 to 0.40, b is in the range of from zero to 0.15, c is in the range of from 0.50 to 0.75, d is in the range of from zero to 0.015, and e is in the range of from zero to 0.02, M1 is selected from Al, Ti, Zr, Mo, W, Fe, Nb, and Mg, M2 is selected from B and K, with a + b + c = 1.0 wherein said composite oxide has a specific surface (BET) in the range from 0.5 m2/gto 10 m2/gand a pressed density of at least 2.9 g/cm3, and wherein said cathode active material has an average primary particle diameter in the range of from 200 to 3,000 nm.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process for making a particulate (oxy)hydroxide of TM including the steps of:



    (a) providing an aqueous solution (α) containing a water-soluble salt of nickel, one metal selected from cobalt and manganese, a compound of at least one metal selected from Ti, Zr, Mg and Nb, an α- or β-hydroxy carboxylic acid or ascorbic acid or of an amino acid selected from glycine, alanine and serine, or their alkali metal salts, an aqueous solution (β) containing an alkali metal hydroxide and, optionally, an aqueous solution (γ) containing ammonia,
    (b) combining the solution (α), the solution (β), and, if applicable, the solution (γ) at a pH value between 11.0 and 13.0 in a stirred tank reactor, thereby creating solid particles of a hydroxide containing nickel, said solid particles being slurried.
