    Abstract: A spring brake used in a dual full-power braking system to provide parking and emergency braking. The modulated spring brake is controlled by an inversion valve that has an override system whereby the emergency braking is not applied unless the front brakes have a pressure differential greater than a predetermined amount in the rear brakes. From this pressure differential, the spring brakes are applied simultaneously with the front brakes to provide the necessary emergency stopping. The amount of application of the spring brakes is proportional to the amount of pressure differential in excess of the predetermined amount. The parking brake is an externally connected cam and lever mechanism for operating the inversion valve.

    Abstract: A servomotor having a first valve for controlling the communication of vacuum and air at atmospheric pressure and a second valve for controlling the communication of air above atmospheric pressure to move a wall in response to a created pressure differential. A plunger moved by a push rod will progressively operate the first and second valves to provide a substantially uniform force for operating a brake actuator.     Abstract: A emergency and parking valve used in a dual full-power system that provides two means to hold off a spring brake. The emergency and parking valve, which contains two independent valves, may be actuated by one of two means. The first means is the parking brake lever and the second means is a pressure differential between each half of the dual full-power system. Because the spring brake is modulated, it may be used to give smooth emergency stops when the pressure differential is sensed. Pressurized fluid to hold off the spring brake is received from each half of the split system so that loss of pressure in one spring brake conduit will not cause an application of the spring brake unless pressure is lost in both spring brake conduits.

    Abstract: A control valve is activated by a first plunger upon movement of an input push rod to develop a pressure differential across a movable wall which produces an output force. This output force is carried through a first piston on which a concentric second piston is retained between a first stop and a second stop. A spring urges the second piston toward the first stop in opposition to a first hydraulic pressure developed by the second piston moving in a pressurizing chamber. When the first hydraulic pressure is sufficient to hold the second piston against the second stop a ball valve connected to an output chamber is closed. The first hydraulic pressure will unseat the first ball valve until an input force moves a second plunger to proportionally open a poppet valve and allow a portion of the first hydraulic pressure to escape into a relief chamber. As the first hydraulic pressure is reduced, the movable wall moves the first piston in the output chamber to develop a second hydraulic pressure.

    Abstract: A pressure ratio changer for selectively responding to a first source of force and a second source of force to pressurize a fluid chamber. A first piston connected to the first source of force is slidably retained in the fluid chamber. A second piston concentrically carried by the first piston has its axial movement limited in one direction by a flange of the first piston. A third piston concentrically carried by the second piston has its axial movement restricted in both directions by a flange on one end and snap ring on the other. The third piston moves in response to an operator activation member to close the fluid communication between the master cylinder piston and the first and second pistons. Now, the reactive force transmitted from the master cylinder piston is proportioned through a reactive chamber to the first and second pistons to bring the system into equilibrium upon activation by an operator.
