Abstract: A vehicle is provided which comprises a plurality of ground engaging members and a frame supported by the plurality of ground engaging members. An engine is supported by the frame, the engine comprising an engine intake that includes an engine intake inlet. A brake assembly comprises a brake output member coupled to at least one ground engaging member of the plurality of ground engaging members, a master cylinder coupled to the brake output member, and a brake booster operably coupled to the master cylinder. Further, the brake booster comprising a body defining a fresh air intake, a conduit extending outwardly from the fresh air intake, and an inlet to the conduit positioned vertically above the brake booster.

Abstract: A vehicle brake booster includes a brake input member configured to receive a braking input force and a booster housing divided into a first chamber adjacent the brake input member and a second chamber remote from the brake input member. A poppet valve includes a poppet valve body and a poppet seal, the poppet valve operable to maintain separation between pressure and vacuum during assisted braking and further being operable to enable evacuation of the air from the first chamber through one or more side ports of the poppet valve body upon release of the braking input force and completion of the assisted braking A restrictor element provides a predetermined release speed for the booster. The one or more side ports define a total flow resistance of the poppet valve body which is less than an effective total flow resistance of the poppet valve body set by the restrictor element.

Abstract: A method for controlling a flow of air includes establishing a level of vacuum in a booster device by generating the flow of air from the booster device using a pump. The method also includes determining whether the level of vacuum in the booster device has reached a predetermined value. The method additionally includes terminating the flow of air from the booster device when the level of vacuum in the booster device has reached the predetermined value. A system for controlling a flow of air according to the method may be incorporated into a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine that is adapted to drive the pump.

Abstract: The present invention provides a vacuum booster, which is constructed such that an area with which a cylinder communicates with a port communicating with a reservoir and being open to the cylinder is reduced at high temperature, so that a sufficient reaction force can be transmitted from a piston of a master cylinder to a valve mechanism at an initial stage of the braking operation, thus preventing vibration or noise from being generated in the valve mechanism. At high temperature, stop position, at which backward movement of the piston of the master cylinder is limited by an output member while a valve piston is at a non-operating position, is shifted forwards by a stop position shifting means, thus reducing the area with which the cylinder communicates with the port communicating with the reservoir and being open to the cylinder.
