Abstract: An atherectomy system includes a drive mechanism adapted to rotatably actuate an atherectomy burr and a control system that is adapted to regulate operation of the drive mechanism. The drive mechanism may include a drive cable that is coupled with the atherectomy burr and a drive motor that is adapted to rotate the drive cable. The control system includes a drive module adapted to provide an operational signal to operate the drive mechanism, a monitoring module adapted to monitor operation of the drive mechanism and to determine if the drive mechanism is operating within a predetermined range and an excitation module that is operably coupled to the drive mechanism and is adapted to provide haptic feedback to a user of the drive mechanism if the monitoring module determines that the drive mechanism is not operating within a predetermined range.

In some cases, the drive mechanism includes a drive cable that is coupled with the atherectomy burr and a drive motor that is adapted to rotate the drive cable. The controller is adapted to receive an indication of an increase in torque experienced at the atherectomy burr and is further adapted to, in response, regulate operation of the drive mechanism such that the increase in torque results in a noticeable reduction in speed of the drive mechanism such that a user of the atherectomy system notices the reduction in speed and is alerted to the increase in torque.

Abstract: A medical device may include an elongate tubular member defining a tube lumen, and an expandable member disposed on the distal portion of the elongate tubular member including a lumen that is in fluid communication with the tube lumen. The expandable member is configured to expand from a collapsed delivery configuration to a distally-open expanded configuration and establish apposition with a vessel wall. A valve member in fluid communication with the tube lumen, and configured to selectively block and selectively allow for flow through the tube lumen. The device may be percutaneously-deployable downstream of a treatment site within a body lumen and may allow for selective removal and/or draining of fluid and/or material, such as embolic material, from a body lumen.

Abstract: An atherectomy system includes a handle having a handle housing, with a drive member extending through the handle housing and operably coupled to an atherectomy burr. A drive mechanism is disposed within the handle housing and is adapted to rotatably engage the drive member. The drive mechanism may include an electric drive motor, a drive gear that is rotatably engaged with the electric drive motor and a driven gear that is coupled with the drive member and is engaged with the drive gear such that rotation of the driven gear causes rotation of the drive member. The drive mechanism may be configured to enable a rotation speed of the atherectomy burr of up to at least about 200,000 revolutions per minute (rpm).

Abstract: An example thrombectomy device is disclosed. The example thrombectomy catheter includes a catheter tube including a proximal portion, a distal portion and a lumen extending therein. The thrombectomy catheter also includes a high pressure tube extending through the catheter lumen from the catheter proximal portion toward the catheter distal portion, the high pressure tube having at least one jet orifice for directing at least one fluid jet through the catheter lumen. Abstract: Medical systems and methods for making and using medical systems are disclosed. Example medical systems may include an atherectomy system configured to engage and remove plaque from walls in vessels of a vascular system. The atherectomy system may include a drive shaft, a rotational tip coupled to an end of the drive shaft, a motor coupled to the drive shaft to rotate the rotational tip, and a controller configured to control a motor state of the motor. The controller may adjust a range of possible load outputs from the motor and/or a maximum load output from the motor to account for external loads acting on the drive shaft and/or rotational tip rotated by the motor and facilitate passing an occlusion in a vasculature of a patient.
